Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycling Daejeon to Gunsan, South Korea - Video

Hey peeps, I'm really new to this forum and thought I'd share a vid I made of me and my girlfriend cycling from Daejeon (where I live) to Gunsan on the coast of South Korea.

https://youtu.be/N2T1AQCr1O4

Anyone else out there making videos like this?

I really enjoyed it!

Most homemade cycling videos lack for editing. My only criticism (except for the generic background music) is that it was a wee bit over edited. The scenery is lovely and I think the story would have benefited from less frenetic editing. Other than that, great job.

Didn't watch the whole thing, but I don't think I saw a single car in what I did see...I like JoeyBikes stuff better.

The video was great! Excellent trail system, scenery, and images. Don't forget to tell your girl that she has a drinking problem. And I also see that someone else is a Hospital fan!

PS. Was the trail system the whole way, or did you have to get on the road every now and then?

Good vid, and interesting to watch since I know nothing about S.Korea. I, too, would like to know if there is an extensive bike trail network there, or were you on mixed use trails or what.

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone. Yeah not sure how you could consider the soundtrack music generic but each to there own. Yeah I love hospital records!

About the route, the last president of South Korea had a kinda person mission to cover the country in cycle paths. I think it was called the Four River something something, so there's loads of good cycle paths spanning quite a larger amount of the country. The route to Gunsan was one of the routes he create called the Geumgang river path. It was mainly cycle path but sometimes road with just some markings. If you're interest you can see all the routes here: https://www.riverguide.go.kr/eng/cycle/certified.jsp

There's actually a single route that runs from Seoul (the captial) to Busan (second biggest city on the coast). I really want to do it but it takes around a min of 4 days one way and I just don't have the holiday to do it.

I live in a country who's a part of the G8 but we fall behind in terms of infrastructure like cycling paths. I think every advanced economy nation should have an extensive cycling path much like train rails.

That's awesome. I'm very jealous. Awesome video!

I agree with you there. I live in the city of Daejeon and it takes the same about of time for me to ride along the river to a friends part of the city as it does to take the bus! Government should definitely take more consideration and put more funding into cycle routes. Like routes for routes not just adding them to the side of roads. You can get away with putting decent cycle routes in places that you couldn't put a road because it has a much less of an environmental impact to the area.

I'm sad to sat that the president that created the ones here in Korea is no longer in power, but I think they are still building some routes.

Great vid!

Will you be taking this route (or something similar in the future?) If you will be and want company, I'd love to tag along!

Navigating Deajeon is easy, outside has given me trouble.

I've been to Korea many times on business and I've always wondered what it would be like to tour parts of the country on a bike. That looked like just a beautiful ride.

Great vid!
Brought back some memories - I could just about smell the place (a good thing).
And, of course, there's just something about BONGO trucks!

Thanks for posting!
