Had planned on riding the tandem on a club ride this AM but it RAINED! We needed the rain. Did some overdue bike maintenance stuff and kept waiting for things to dry out - misting most of the day. Finally let up so we got out for a five mile token tandem ride this evening before dark.
Note: It's getting dark way too damn early!

Congrats on the soon to be official retirement! I'm envious!

No ride today, but cleaned up the bikes from yesterday's ride through the monsoon.

We did 36.6 tandem miles today. That counts as 73.2, right? We got dive-bombed by three rafts of geese in migrating-V formation. One lucky goose hit both of us with direct hits. Had to stop briefly to clean up.

Yes! It was a glorious day. I rode alone to Fort Tryon Park. There was the annual Medieval Faire. Then on the way back, I took a slow route and explored Manhattan a bit. I grew up here and live here until I was 26. Back, after being away for 26 years, coincidentally. So the terrain was new and old for me. I concentrated on good posture, which was good for my nerve pain in my feet and for my shoulder muscle fatigue. That was a bit of a breakthrough, so yay!
I was really fast in Central Park. No one could keep up with me. I got home and weighed my bike: 48 pounds!

Hi all, we don't get much better weather than last weekend here in western PA. Sunny, mild temps, it was a great day for the Northeast wine ride and my wife's favorite way to celebrate her birthday. I rode 52 miles and enjoyed every revolution.

22 miles in my recurring role as a Bike Commuter. Grey and damp this morning but warm and just a few sprinkles. Dry on the way home.

Last night- pub crawl ride plus bonus miles for a total of 37

Tonight- solo fixie ride, 27 miles, brought the monthly total to 503, my best month in two years and just a bit short of my all time best.

Did a long fitness ride of 95 mi, 4800' in Harriman Park. Nothing special, same thing I always do, just longer, took 8 hrs.
It was peculiar that all day I watched caterpillars, fuzzy orange and black ones, crawling across the road in both directions. I wondered why they weren't up a tree in a cacoon instead.

Wooly bear caterpillars. Great harbingers of the coming winter! Supposedly you can tell how severe the upcoming winter will be by how thick their fur is. But I wonder how they know?

10 miles, indoors. A little unwell. BTW, it is the number of reddish-brown segments that tell you about the winter, I am told. Really, just tells you how old the caterpillar is, which tells you when it hatched, and is probably more informative about last winter. A Dr. Curran, from the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, first started trying to predict winters using this method. So says Farmers Almanac.
