Press Fit BB removal on dutch bike

hi there,

i've got an old "dutch" city bike frame that has pressed cups for the BB. The spindle has a bit of play so I wanted to remove and inspect the bearings. I've never worked on one of these before. Does anyone, know if one or more swift blows to the spindle will knock out the cups? do these take cartridge bearings? i'm in germany so i think the manufacturer is likely thompson. not sure though. any help is appreciated. also not sure what that plastic ring is around the drive side. chainguard mount perhaps? like i said, not used to working on these kind of bikes.

btw, the frame is pretty funky. the only logo i can see is a lightning bolt on the fork crown tin. anyone know which company that is?

thanks.

Looks like a c clip on the drive side. Needs to be removed to tap out. I'd guess cartridge bearings.

I wish the pics were cleaner but I agree it looks like whatever is on the drive side holds everything together. I would do alot more cleaning and looking before hammering.

the ring is actually broken, but it could be a c-clip, though possibly an o-clip, since the cut is not flush. i'll clean and post back

Just bang it out with a hammer, remove one cup, then use axle to bang out other side. Dutch bikes never used anything as sophisticated as a c-clip.

on my way home the other day i stumbled across this bike, which looks remarkably similar.

Sparta is the company. Apparently from Netherlands. the newer version was definitely lugless, but lacked the lightning bolt on the fork crown.

Sparta 'one piece' frame. Good idea, but a lot them broke at the welds.
