DC Wmata can go to hell. I rode my bike into work today, and as it's raining, i decided to use the subway for the majority of my trip. Right after i swiped in, i was told that i can't use the stairs or the escalators and have to use a damn elevator. I arrived at the station 3 min before my train, but due to the shenanigans, i mossed it by 20 seconds whereas the escalator or the stairs usually takes 30 seconds. How effing ridiculous...
of course this isnt the worst part of their anti-bike policy as you can't bring a bike onto the train during rush hours even if you can doing a reverse commute, and the system knows which direction you are traveling (ticket get scanned at the origin and destination) so they can fine people if they really want.

I bought my standing desk and brought it into work. Management went nuts when they saw it and told me to take it home. According to them, they need to hire a consultant to do a risk assessment and then provide one for me. That's all fine and dandy, but we all know it will be blown off for months and I'd be lucky to actually see a standing desk in a year. That's even if they approve it; since I don't have an actual medical condition that warrants it there is a chance they may never approve it, because 'If you get one, then we'll have to get one for everyone'.
Oh well, rant off. My life could be worse; at least our public transportation allows bikes during rush hour!

"Sounds like you need to hire a risk consultant to ascertain whether you're a moron or not. I could cut you a deal and do that report myself."

I use a standing desk. Improved the condition of my lower back considerably and I wouldn't want to go back. I recommend a standing mat, and a barstool for occasional resting of the feet. (The barstool at my desk is almost permanently occupied by the cat so I hardly ever use it but sometimes it's nice to have.)
I wonder what risk the management sees. Falling over while standing? I recommend quitting that stupid job.

We have a lot of homemade standing desks in my office - things like boxes and phone books stacked up to raise the monitor and keyboard. Unfortunately, my desk is not quite as conducive for building a standing desk. Also, most of the people in my office who have done this are substantially shorter than me.

some white trash driving a U-Haul almost purposefully curb checked me while screaming there is no bike lane, I'm a [derogatory term for gay], and I should get off the road. The irony of it was that rush hour traffic prevented him from getting very far up the road and I caught up with him at the next three stop lights. He had his window down and kept jawing at me so I stupidly took the bait and tried getting him to realize the flaw in his thinking. I was the stupid one though, people like that don't have enough intelligence to realize anything other than the right here and right now, and when they're angry it's even more pointless to engage them.

In other news, I spent my morning working at the coffee shop next door because I needed to mooch off their internet connect. And yes, the internet in my office works.
A large part of my job is to maintain a bunch of websites for our clients, but our server got hacked. Bad. Now, most of our sites are offline. We moved some of the smaller sites to an off-site server. But I cannot access the off-site server from my office because my computer is still hardwired to the old, hacked server. So, I have to use an outside internet connection to update things.
The coffee shop turned off its wifi in advance of the lunch rush coming - lots of people got up and left when they did that - so I am now back in my office surfing the internet.

See, that happened to me back in the fall and like you I caught up to them at a particularly long traffic light. I leaned in all quiet like, almost had my head in their window, and said "Well, this is awkward." To my surprise it totally defused the situation and the driver wound up apologizing after some nervous laughter.

I don't feel great about my chances. I am nervous!
It'll all go away the minute I start, though.
