Gevenalle.
Assemblers of other manufacturers components into combination brake lever/shifters.

Awesome for people who just want stuff to work & don't have time or care to give concerning interoperability of components.

Norco...Also Sekai.
There is a story there. But, I don't remember enough details to be accurate. The gist is the ¥/$ value changed and the factory couldn't do both lines anymore. Norco won and we still have them to this day. The bike shop that had Sekai's built closed last year on account of the owner (a genuinely nice guy) wanted to retire.

By the way - contra an assertion offered earlier in this thread that Rohloff hubs will inevitably last for generations of use, a search for "Rohloff failure" produces a surprising number of results. But there's no reason to doubt that the average Rohloff hub is likely to last as long as, or longer than, almost any similarly complicated bicycle component.

It was mostly hyperbole to play into the bullet-proof reputation. As far as any failures, yes. It is possible for anyone to abuse anything.

I rebuild gearboxes for a living. I don't see the Rohloff as anything particularly complicated. But that's just me.
