Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin 705!!!

Looks like it really is real!

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10885

Supports the Ant+Sports protocol so it will interface with the new Quarq power meter and provide power output display.

Built in base map with an SD slot for more detailed maps.

Looks like this might be the holy grail of cycling computers.

Holy crap at the price, tho.. $709 for the decked out version.

hey everyone, what's the weight for these units? I am very interested but have not ridden with a computer for the last 2 years and really don't need anything other than speed and distance.

Add $75 for detail maps (and the MapSource program)...those "base maps" blow...fwiw. Looks cool though!

If i have time to look down at a map to see where I need to go, I think i'm not riding hard enough. The 305 works just fine for me.

It doesn't have a powermeter, it is only compatible with a few obscure brands.

I was hoping for more. Color serves no real purpose, the 305 is smaller and lighter.
Maps, ok, but hardly worth $600.

Yeah, this is the scam with Garmin auto navigators as well -the maps they give you are 8-10 years out of date, so after you pay $400, you need a $120 SD card with decent maps.

Other than color, I bet it's mostly a firmware update to allow maps.

Eh, I don't think that should cost > $300 more for essentially a 305 with a firmware update.

There are ways to make the device use less power and sample data less frequently, certainly will get you beyond 6-7 hours. USB battery chargers are small and light.

I can't do anything about the 999 mph speed limit.
