Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I had a full beard to not look so young until it started making me look too old. Once the gray starts coming in, your whole perspective can change.

+1

In the summer mine is trimmed down almost to 5 o'clock shadow length, a little longer in the winter.

I'm trying. See signature. Unfortunately it's pretty pathetic. The missus suggested that I needed a face diaper for the scratchiness.

Beard rocks in the winter, goats are over - what's the point. I let it grow every fall, keep it trimmed (about #5 on my trimmer), and shave in the Spring. Wife likes it, keeps face warmer, good place for icicles to hang on long cold rides.

they have been for 10+ years.

btw - just to clarify, when you write 'goat', you meant 'goatee', and not the animal right?

good enough for me, for the winter.

I hate shaving and when I do I just shave down to the goatee...gotta keep something to hide all those chins!

I usually let the beard grow for a week to a month, then either shave or just trim it down close.

and fashion matters how?
I've had mine for 10 years or so. Fashions come fashions go. My goatee stays. Except when I get bored and grow a beard for a week or two.

Here is a good tip... on Thanksgiving morning, shave off your beard. It is more of a hygene issue. The mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and various pies are a breeze to wipe off a smooth face. Then you let it grow out all throughout the winter. You're welcome.
