r0ckh0und's Ross Super Gran Tour XV

Bought this from a scrapper this morning. It was given to him by a neighbor. Thank goodness he had the wherewithal to keep it from the crusher. Ishiwata 024 tubing with nearly complete Arabesque group, 6207 hubs, 27" rims with presta tubes. Headset is a Ross Professional and a Strada saddle. Nice chrome Tange fork but not sure if it's original

Very nice. I had no idea Ross built any good quality road bikes apart from their Signature/Tom Kellog line.

Wow, the paint is impeccable. Great score! And a very interesting triple half step setup...

What are those pedals?

I worked in a Schwinn/Ross dealership when these came out and at the time, I did not like the color. In the early '80's this wasn't a cool color. At the time with all the BMX stuff in primary colors and most road bike manufacturers not venturing into this color teritory.

If I remember correctly, it had brown cable housings. This was a turning point for Ross. The rep' was actually excited about selling bikes. Us mechanics were impressed. But why Taupe? (at the time)

I thought it had a painted fork with a semi sloping crown.

Now, I appriciate the paint. And yours paint looks great.

Ya, all these I've seen in the past have those janky dropouts on the front forks. I like this one better.

Yep, someone has changed the fork, probably to get rid of the "C" shaped lawyer tabs. I did the same thing with mine. The 1982 Gran Tour XV was Ross's top of the line bike before you jumped up to the Signature Series and from what I've read, it seems like Tom Kellog had input into this bike also, by suggesting the Ishiwata tubing and Shimano 600 Arabesque group. I really enjoy riding mine, and I even took it up Mt Hamilton not too long ago (I'll link video). Nice find!

Just remembered, I also have a video that addresses the fork swap on the Ross...

I believe someone posted about a very pristine one of these here on the forum in the past. Seems like I may have seen it on Craigslist or Facebook for sale recently also, and also a triple.

edit; Found it. This might be the one someone posted about here previously. Seriously clean looking like the OPs.

It's 52-45-39 With a triplizer on a 130 BCD I think you'd be limited to a 38t on the small ring

Thanks for this video. I was not aware of the brittleness issue on the stock fork drops. It looks like the person that swapped out the fork did a nice job of matching things up with the steerer threads. Appears to have the original stem, headset and bars.
