LOL ... I used to tell people that the reason I avoided heart rate monitors is because I was afraid I'd look at it someday and see that it was reading ZERO.
That actually happened to a friend of mine. Said the last thing he remembered was seeing the "zero" on the display.

Kids and bikes
Did a short ride today, over to Washington's Crossing and back. As I often do when going in that direction, I stopped at a local ice cream stand. To my surprise it was full of bikes and kids. Talking to them, I found out they were a club from Princeton High School, but not actually sanctioned by the school - just a bunch of kids that want to get out and ride. They must have done at least 10 miles to get to the ice cream stand and they would have 10 miles back. I asked them where they ride and the answer was all over the place and it was the first time they had been to this ice cream stand. Also they ride every week. Seeing the kids out on their bikes and having a good time with each other made me feel a little better about the world.
Mostly there were mountain bikes but there were some road bikes as well. Pictures:

Last night- pub crawl ride plus bonus miles for a total of 37
Tonight- solo fixie ride, 27 miles, brought the monthly total to 503, my best month in two years and just a bit short of my all time best.

When I rode to the local car show and fly in at St. Louis Regional Airport last Saturday, I found this photographic evidence of the Motorcycle's bicycle ancestry!
by goofus_maximus, on Flickr
There were some neat cars there as well, though the fly-in was a bit of a disappointment this year...

About 20 miles into my ride, I saw someone ahead after riding all alone since minutes after the start. I couldn't imagine that I was catching anyone. Then I saw that he was carrying his broken bike and understood. He seemed OK and was joking about it, so I kept going. A car came along soon and I let them know where he was. Before long another car approached and I abandoned as I would have been well over an hour behind the last finisher ahead of me.

He had to stop because he didn't bring along some duct tape to fix his bike in the field... Duct tape! Appropriate to use for anything... except ducts...

During the previous day's stage, a unicycle passed me about 15 miles into the ride. I was doing the 64 mile route and he was doing the 33. I now know that being passed on a hill by a recumbent is not the ultimate humbling experience.

I usually refill my water bottle at a playground on my route. I wanted to get a shot of this Dad having some quality time with his kids, which consisted of him being totally engrossed with his smartphone.
But, then, oops, he caught me:
P.S. Not that I'm judging...

I'll see Dnvr's snow picture from the other thread and raise you a California warm sunny late morning in October, climbing Coleman valley road during Levi's Gran Fondo. The small white dots in far right near the water are the tents of the rest stop at the start of the climb.
