New bike for Wildwood
First final build. Alas, the Weinmann Delta brakes stumped everyone, so Modolo brakes/levers got the call. 531C frameset. Needs a little tweaking still. 58 is the smallest frame I can fit well. Maybe a different saddle. Undecided on bar tape - flashy ribbon yellow or sedate slate gray?

Riding is out right now thanks to my cervical spine issue. However, I get to enjoy watching my daughter's play their freshman year of high school sports. This one (in white) got her first start on the varsity soccer team today because of her tenacious defense

On one of the more beautiful routes in western Colorado. The temperature was perfect (80), it was slightly overcast, and I was tempted to stop at one of the many little wineries for a tasting. Instead, I couldn't resist a rural pie shop for a dish of fresh, homemade peach ice cream. She made a sundae out of it by cutting a fresh peach in half and putting the ice cream on top. Their pies are also pretty darned good. And they have a bike rack... Life is good!

Steve-did your route follow the river over to Palisade? I love Grand Junction. It sounds like a wonderful place to retire. I don’t think I’d get tired of riding up and through the monument. Hopefully I can still climb after this hip replacement heals up. Some folks were telling me real estate was pretty reasonable in Fruita.

I would love to retire to GJ as it checks my boxes for outside activity, but too small & conservative for my wife.

There are a lot of people who have retired to this area because of the biking opportunities, as well as the climate. We did; and found that the city was big enough to have the amenities we wanted (except for a Costco), reasonable airline connections and Amtrak, and a whole lot of outside activities. The Colorado National Monument is magnificent and (if you have a park service senior pass) almost free. But there are a lot of other paved country roads, and our Riverside Trail. Click here for some biking maps... At least four couples I've met recently retired to Fruita, which is even more bicycle friendly...
