Bingo. In my near 40 years of highway work, I don't ever remember a frozen sanitary sewer pipe or even a frozen storm sewer which would be more likely. Neither are designed to hold water but to evacuate it.

Frozen municipal water supply lines can and do freeze but there has to be a blockage or an exposure to temperatures like in the case of not being buried deep enough but that's rare.

Texas power grid is stabilized, but apparently had been on the knife's edge of total failure and there may still be required isolated blackouts. The water system is now the primary issue, with a major main broken in downtown that flooded (and then froze, natch) seven blocks of downtown. The water company has been all but silent and completely tone-deaf in its response, telling us to boil water and not drip faucets when most of the city has no water anyway. They do not acknowledge the scope of the outages and provide no timeline for recovery. There is a Facebook Live (vomit) emergency press conference right now where they said they had to build pressure back up, then open the systems bit by bit to identify and fix any issues and not flood it out. Which makes sense, but with no timeline provided, the interwebs are alight with rumors that it could be a week. I try not to pay attention to the rumors, but in the absence of real communication and transparency it's hard.

I did go fill the truck this morning, which required a hazardous trek to find a place with anything to sell. Ever have to call around to gas stations? The one I found had a trickle, and I worry the gas is dirty or the auto shutoff didn't work and the charcoal canister flooded (filled more than expected, and eventually I just stopped), but it's due for inspection next month anyway. Smallest of issues in all this. Now at least we can get to and from Boerne, if necessary, on what's in the tank.

Then when I got home I had to park across the sidewalk because the sloped driveway had turned to ice where I drove over it, so I had to take a hammer and chip that away to safely get into the garage. While being snowed on.

All this and we're among the most lucky, both by exactly where we happen to live and the money we had to be somewhat prepared and have options, including a big stupid SUV that can handle all of this. Warm, safe, and with enough water to drink. Power and internet and the ability to talk to loved ones. And I'm still on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Having had Roto Rooter out to our house 3 times in the last year, and having to go to a neighbor's house to 'go' in the middle of a pandemic may have made me hypervigilant about toilets clogging. Plumbing, like electricity and heat, is one of those modern conveniences we take so much for granted that we do not generally do anything to prepare for them failing. And the last two clogged pipes events happened while we also didn't have a working furnace. At least we still had electricity and could run space heaters!

Oh, and I'm talking about the sewer pipes in the house, not the mains. Don't know about you, but mine are in the crawlspace under the house, where it's not heated.

....and while I pat myself on the back for cutting and drilling wood accurately enough for everything to fit, my son is watching the successful landing of a vehicle about 34 millions of miles away. That makes my level of precision seem a wee bit less significant.

One thing about last nights Sweet Spot session - I had done a Ramp Test recently on Zwift that yielded an FTP of 290w. I tried last week to do the 'SST Short' workout, and barely got through one round of 5min at 270 then 5min at 250. So I reset my FTP to what I'd gotten on the previous Ramp Test, 256w, which made the steps 250 and 230, and I JUST BARELY managed that one. I'm thinking the Ramp Teast overestimated my FTP by a significant chunk.

If you have a freeze in a 4" sewer pipe, you have more issues than temperature. Talking to datlas would be my first call in that case.
