I can't be very specific because well, we are still in the beginning stages, trying to gain some understanding in what the cycling world/market wants and how our idea/product will fit in.

school, but the project has marketing and engineering parts to it. we're being graded on both.

this is our senior project. We need to take a project from conception to prototype, including all marketing research.

Listen, I realize there's probably a lot of these threads going around, and it can be bothersome or annoying. But we do feel this is the best way to reach a wide audience in the shortest amount of time. So like I said, sorry for the spamming and I'll gladly take some flack for posting this if we can get some responses.

I'm 6ft even, so I chose 5'12? Just kinda confusing, fyi. Dunno if that really matters or not, but some of that data might be skewed.

Also, just in the sake of polling accuracy, this is definitely a question with built in bias:

"Would you favor a roof mounted system if there was a product that allowed you to load your bike with less effort?"

No one is going to say that they would prefer more effort.

Why does the question seem you want me to put my bikes on my roof?

That kinda makes me scratch my head, as it invites potential risk from overhead objects due to operator error.

I said no because I prefer putting bikes inside the van and only use the roof rack if I need more room inside. The loading effort doesn't factor into my decision.

Since I have a wagon with no immediate plans to install a roof rack on it, most of the questions were unanswered.

Why is there never a front bumper rack? When I have a rear rack I'm afraid of being rear ended. Front rack I can control what I hit.

Just get a job as bus driver. But then, you wouldn't care what you hit. Ours don't.

Sorry, I believe the intention of that particular question was: if you are deciding between say a hitch or a roof rack, and there was a product that allowed you to load your bike with less effort, would you choose the roof rack because of it.

again, thanks to all those that helped and I apologize if these questions are confusing. We've got a mechanical, a chemical and a software engineer trying to come up with survey questions, and this is the best we can come up with in such short time. I mean we have an idea in mind, and hopefully ( and I'm not gonna lie here) we can use (manipulate if we have to) the data to support going forward with the idea. And if it turns out that 1. putting bikes on top of vans and SUVs is just ridiculous or 2. it is not ridiculous but they have no issues loading a 30 lb mnt. bike 7 ft in the air, or 3. people with sedans and wagons simply do not need any assistance loading their bikes at all, then it's good to find out earlier rather than later.

Some of the other groups in my class are doing service related project, in the spirit of us being engineers, we wanted to come up with an original idea/product.
