Long distance cycling and wild camping
Hey
Does anyone have experience with wild camping in the UK? I'm very interested in doing this so that where ever I travel to in the world I know how to spot a good place to camp without paying and without experiencing dangerous situations (flooding, sinking, wild animal attacks, etc)
Recently I've been day dreaming about getting on my bike and cycling, just cycling for as long as I can go. Anywhere. Unfortunately I am working to earn some money (spent it all in Asia!) so I'm restricted to weekends, so if you're interested in doing some cycling and wild camping in any weather please reply to this thread or message me
At the moment I don't have a tent, so it's something I will need to invest in.
Have a wonderful day and I hope to hear from you soon

I usually wild camp about half the time, (the colder it gets the more appealing warm showers get !), sides of fields are a good place, the UK is pretty safe,
A long way from Liverpool but Dartmoor is a good start as it's legal to wild camp in the entire national park area. you can get a cheap single skin tent for about £15 on the evil bay, lidl do quite ok/cheap ones as well

Attacks from wild animals in the UK? What sort of animals were you thinking of? We used to take our cat camping until neighbours told us she used to run up and down other tents leaving little holes everywhere, but that probably doesn't count!
I think wild camping is also permitted in Scotland, so long as you stay away from the hunting estates (where the only dangerous animals go around on two legs).

Thanks to the Access Code you are able to have non-motorised responsible access to land. Note though Loch Lomond have recently introduced some bylaws prohibiting wild camping in some parts of the park. VisitScotland have some great advice for wildcamping in Scotland, links to the Access Code, a pocket guide to camping etc.
I'd advise heading further north to north west Sutherland for some fantastic scenery, fascinating history and great hospitality!
I don't seem to be able to post a link but you should find it if you do a search. Try Venture North's heritage map too!

I’ve frequently pitched in valleys, atop mountains, fields, and aside towpaths. As for wild beasts, I have had a few sheep encounters, and one horse affair (we’re now separated haha!), and one very wet night on a high field, but with a watering system. I woke up thinking I was sweating but turns out I was in a puddle! All useful lessons learned, get out and enjoy. Happy to advise on tents, I’ve had my fair share, would definitely go double skin, nothing worse than the condensation getting your hair/body/clothes/sleeping bag wet with more nights ahead.
