Had an incident, my touring plans put off

Had a nasty accident this morning while mountain biking. Ruined all my touring training and plans. While negotiating a slight downhill corner, the front tire caught a root that had rain washed away the earth under it. It caught my front wheel on the sides and threw me off the bike. Landed with my right knee on another big hard root.
Laid there for about 30 minutes in pain. Until I heard someone passing by on the adjacent trail. Blew my survival whistle hard a few times and a few people came to assist me.
Now in hospital and had undergone X-ray and Docs said I had bruised my Patella Tendon. The root struck me between the patella knee cap and the lower shin bone where the tendon is. Damn painful.
Expected to be out in a couple days.
Looks like n riding for me at least for a while until my knee is completely healed.

Cue the "if you'd been running a flashing headlight, the root would've seen you and moved" crowd.

Good Luck.

I think I bruised the patellar tendon a week ago. But, apparently not as bad as you as I got back up and on the bike for a short distance. Day 2 was tough, but since then it has been rapidly getting better.

I've had sprained ankles or hyperextended elbows, and they seem to linger for a long time, but at least this last bruise seems to be resolving quickly.

I just feel lucky that I didn't have an ACL rupture, or meniscus tear.

Started riding again today. I initially started with a slow 1:3 combi, to sere whether it would hurt. No pain, so spin for 15 minutes to warm up and get the knees acclimatized.
Moved up to 2:2 combi, seems okay and after 20 minutes, moved up to 2:5.
Continued cycling with 2:5, 2:6 and 2:8 combis and in the end the cyclo comp showed I covered 77km.

Pay attention to (monitor) your mental processes, too, not just your physical system (body). Trauma affects the cognitive abilities, and its important to know when we are not 100%, in that respect.

I wear a pair of these when I go into the trees. Most mtb riders think they are uncool and don't though, not until they have an accident.

Get well soon OP.
