Made in the Shade...

I almost didn't see this walking to lunch today. It looks like a camouflage tarp over the front of the bike and a bamboo shade over the rest. I didn't inspect it to see how well the bike was locked and secured, but then, you can't steal what you can't see.

Could be an art installation. Stealing it could be performance art.

Have I been drinking? What the heck are we looking at here?!

If I were a thief, even if that thing is not locked in any way, I’d stay far, far away from messing with whatever weirdo rigged up this situation!

Not much more to tell...There was a row of hedges between the tree and the sidewalk/street to the right. To the left was a parking lot for a movie theater.
Here is a wider view.

It probably wouldn't register to a car driving by on the street, but to a pedestrian walking by (like me), or to some one parking in the adjacent lot it would stick out; maybe not as a bicycle, but as something.

Seriously I think it is just some one's attempt to prevent bike theft, although, I have seen art "installations" on local college campuses that this would pass for.

Even after you saying something I don't see one parked next to it. I must be blind.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Bicycle?

Pretty effective. I think that a lot of what makes it work is that the bike is hanging in the tree--the rear wheel is about a foot off the ground, so you look at it and it doesn't immediately register as "bike."

On the other hand, the entire thing draws attention, but in more of a homeless-person's-shelter way than a parked-bicycle way.

I can't imagine carrying all that stuff on the bike all the time, but it could be a favorite parking spot if the user hid all the covering material in the hedge.

Security by obscurity isn't security.

The type of local act that'd evolve from such "creativity" would be arson.

A homeless person might steal the tarp... and the shade.

I think I see a U-lock through the rear triangle and around that branch, at the top of the seat tube.
