I thought it would be great to turn 66, because our annual Triton 5K has age groups 56-60, 61-65, 66-70, etc.
I had placed 4th in the 61-65 group the year before, and figured I had a shot a podium (3rd) last year, but I was 4th again. :<

Wait till y'all get close to 80. Riding alone sure is lonely. Strava seems to think nobody over 75 rides.

I can't wait 'til I'm 100 for the same reason. Although, locally there's no one else doing much in the 70+ category.

In my case at least the occasional age-specific KOM (55-64) helps to compensate for lower average speeds.

68 in a couple of weeks. Enjoy having my Garmin 920XT and the data it provides. Data does not rule my life but it is nice knowing that yesterday I rode 121 miles, Thursday it was 101 miles and Tuesday it was 106 miles. Yesterday I had a moving average of 17mph and hit 29.3mph when I went from last to the front in the paceline of 8 YOUNGER guys to liven things up. Everyone reacted and the 2 stronger riders broke away. BTW, at that point I already had 79 miles in and the rest had 19 miles from where the LBS ride started. Promptly blew up and let them ride off but it was fun splitting the group up.

I've managed to find a balance between riding without regard to stats and using Strava for personal achievements and monitoring progress. I go with whatever feels right for my mood of the day. Finding a way to be mellow and just enjoy the ride has been a great accomplishment. I'm 72, as of 6/19) and was a competitive athlete in college. So, dialing it back from competition mode has not been easy.

My best time ever would've put me about #800 - but that was 10 years before Strava was a thing.
I have zero idea where I would fit in age-category.

I was looking forward to turning 60 for the same reason. I was going to start TT'ing too, but life changed and my cycling dropped off. It may be better where you are, but when I was still fast and living in NJ, I was aware that far too many people were rigging their times on everything but the steepest climbs by drafting others. I'd see a guy in the 55-60 age group set a new standard and then if I looked at the overall list, I'd see several much younger guys with the same time on the same day on the same stretch of road. Good to hear you're having fun!
