I was thinking about riding down the Sliver Comet Trail Silver Comet Trail Georgia - Welcome but it is paved the whole way and I only have a mountain bike https://www.performancebike.com/shop...lusive-31-7055 . So I was wondering if I could lockout the suspension and inflate the tires to like 60psi; would that be subsistence? Also its a 1x if that makes a difference?

Yes, the Comet is paved all the way into eastern Alabama. There will be more users, including walkers and runners, closer to Atlanta. Farther from Atlanta, the path's gradients are less even and the route is not quite as obvious. But very favorable the whole way.

I see mtn bikes on mups all the time. For 60-90 miles you'll survive or at least it won't be the tires or drivetrain that kills you. I never use the lockout and don't feel any need to and i rarely switch the front ring and on a flat mup theres no need to. Between this and the appalachian trail post I get the feeling you're trolling but you can ride 60 miles on a unicycle if it pleases you.

I'd much rather ride the Silver Comet on a mtb. The first time I rode it, it was on a road bike. Never again. There is too much junk on it, especially if you are riding the whole thing. I've done the entire trail. Matter of fact, I've done the Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga from Smyrna to Weaver and back in the same day. When I got back, my bike looked like I'd been doing cyclocross on it. The tunnels were a mess from all the rain we'd had . There are a lot of things on the trail that will give you flats, if you are not careful. I rode my Trek 7.3 FX on the day I did the 200 miler, but I have ridden my mtn bike on it as well.

I live eleven miles from the Silver Comet Trail and ride it weekly of not daily. I was on it about three hours ago.

I'm sure @dieselgoat just hit the trail after a bad storm or something because hundreds of road riders and triathletes use the trail on a daily basis and there are no more flats than on the road. I've certainly never had a flat on the trail. There is no broken glass like on the road.

I wouldn't hesitate to ride it on a road bike. A mountain bike might be helpful for the one large hill just west of Rockmart if you are not a strong climber. 1x doesn't matter. I met a couple Saturday morning who were doing 60 miles on the trail on hardtail mountain bikes.

The Silver Comet Trail Photo thread will show typical conditions so you can judge for yourself. I say go for it.

@SoldSpartan, my opinion is that the most interesting section of trail in Georgia is the 22 miles between Seaboard Ave and The Caboose in Hiram out to Rockmart.

The peak in the elevation profile is not real. That's a mountain but the trail goes under the mountain through a tunnel.

South Marble Coffee House in Rockmart is pretty good and bike friendly. They don't mind if you bring your bike inside.
