Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Setting up regular road wheels tubeless

I have my stock Mavic Ksyrium Equipe S wheelset from my 2014 SuperSix just sitting in the closet and it got me wondering if any of you have ever tried converting these to tubeless for gravel purposes?

If I recall correctly they are only 15C inner so they may not be the best for gravel, much less tubeless

They'd likely go on a bike with ~35-38mm tire clearance anyway.

The bead seat on those rims doesn't really have the wide "ledge" that you'd want for mounting tires tubeless. I would go ahead and use tubeless tape since I think it's fantastic, but I'd probably keep them tubed to avoid surprises.

Yeah I understand the mechanics behind it. But I've read pretty favorable reports of people converting these to tubeless for road, but finding info for tubeless gravel hasn't been easy to find. I can't decide if it would be more reliable (bead staying put) with high road pressure or low gravel pressure...

Hmm, if there are reports that it works for one application, I'd be tempted to try! Just bring some tubes and a pump along in case.

Yeah, I figure even if it burps and lets all the air out I seriously doubt with tubeless tires' tight beads that it would completely roll off the rim. At least I hope it doesn't..

How about trying skinny strippers? Recently there's been a thread on it. They claim to make it work on virtually any rim.

I don't hear of many Mavic rims with a loose fit (usually the opposite.)

I'm wondering about converting normal rims too. It's worked really well on my mountainbikes so I'm tempted to try it on 38mm Gravel King slicks. It would probably work so long as you keep the pressure at 60 psi or less. I would convert the rear rim first and ride it awhile to see how it goes, and if there was no sign of trouble cautiously try the front.

That's a good idea actually.
