FOUL! FOUL!

This is Solveg's and my thread about the upper Midwest. No talk about it being 80 wherever you are in February is allowed.

Such talk is BANNED I tell you! BANNED!

Can I come in?

Every day that passes is one day closer to Spring. I'm ready.

In July the grouch and Mrs. Grouch are coming to Pardevilleland for a week of bicycling. Everytime that I see this tiread title I get a little excited.

So, Grouch, is your trip all planned out, as to what days you will be in Wisconsin and roughly where you plan to be riding?

Yup. It's a commercial organized tour. Pedal Across Wisconsin. We've done "Dr J's" North Woods ride several times and have obviously been satisfied.

This is a tour that we havn't done before. Dates are July 11 - 18. Towns include Pardeeville, Mauston, tomah, Sparta, Reedsburg and back to Mauston. Overnights are in economy priced motels. It's roughly 50 mile days and this tour has a lot of rail-trail conversion.

Found the web page for it. Interesting in that you have the option of riding roads or trails on a couple of days. I see on July 16th, you are riding from Sparta to Reedsburg - 65 miles via road or 59 via trail. I love that trail ride, about half of it is on the "400" trail, which is my favorite trail of all.

You'll be in Megaman country when you are in Tomah on the night of July 13th. He lives in Tomah.

It's Irma's. That is in rck's territory, down in Argyle, WI. You won't be close to there.

If you make it to Argyle, then it isn't hard to find Irma's, as there are only about 10 businesses open in Argyle.

Hey Tom and any others in the area. The M @ M cafe in Monticello has re-opened. If the weather holds and the Badger state trail dries up I think I'll talk Skipper into a ride up in order to check out their pie! Skip will need the work as he has signed up for the Dairyland Dare. I haven't made a decision yet, I think I'll let my legs give me an indication. For those looking for a good challenge ride check it out. It is done in august and involves anywhere from 100-300 klicks with anywhere from 7500-24,000 ft. of climbing and is a very well run ride.

If anybody is heading to Menomonie and the Red Cedar Trail, I would enjoy riding along and getting to meet people. Menomonie is about 60 miles east of St. Paul, MN.

I checked them out. They've kept it almost the same - to the point of not only offering the same pies, but the pies are still being made by the same person who made them for the old M & M.

I asked them if they were going to continue to give out buttons to those who biked in to eat there, but they were unaware of that tradition. Said they would consider it.

NO THREAD LEFT BEHIND!
Hey Tom and any others riding the Badger trail, we rode it north to Monticello from Monroe yesterday. It was in reasonable shape, albeit soft in spots. It could stand to be packed a bit.

There was a bit of a problem with my piece of pie at the M@M but I didn't finish it and they didn't charge me for it. I will give them another chance, however, as I believe in 2nd chances-sometimes.

We got stopped by the county sheriff(deputy) as he was driving down the trail. It seems as though someone has been setting grass fires along the trailside-3 yesterday. He wanted to know if we had seen any suspicious characters. I just pointed at skipper and smiled! I'm startled that he has yet to post a request for help making bail.

I rode it yesterday too, but only down to a couple of miles south of Belleville. It was in very good shape, much better than at this time last year. Only one minor wet spot.

Since it has been cold lately, I didn't think to use sunscreen until I had been out for 1.5 hours. Got minor burns on both arms, my neck, and face.

I stopped by the small bike repair shop that started up in Belleville last year and found a sign on the door saying that it had moved to New Glarus.

To anyone who rides the Badger trail-We got stopped for a pass check(which we had) and in the course of the convesation I asked when the northern end would be completed. The ranger shrugged her shoulders and said that the money to do so had been re-allocated. Most disappointing as I had planned on riding it to Madison stopping for lunch and riding it back home. If ever it gets done it figures to be a nice ride.

Pardeeville made the New York Times today!

I always thought it was a mythical place, that existed only in this thread. But I guess it really exists.

How could you doubt the existence of Pardeeville? The home of the Watermelon Festival!
https://www.pardeevillewatermelonfestival.com/

It has its own Wikipedia entry:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pardeeville,_Wisconsin

What they fail to mention is that you can go to Pardeeville, but you can never leave.

Now that I think of it, perhaps that is where Solveg is nowadays.
