I like this website, but . . . .

Yes--but! It is damned inefficient because of all the extraneous advertising that it accesses and downloads causing long waits, screens to flutter up and down, browsers to crash, etc. Very frustrating. I'd go back to the Paceline forum but those dudes over there are way too pretentious for my tastes and y'all are a better bunch over here, anyway.

Anyway, that is my rant for the day.

There seems to be a consensus building . . . .

I guess I'll have to get a PayPal account.

I know what you and the rest of the admins and sight owner mean when this is posted, but why would I sign up for a paid membership on this site when my initial impression (when I log on for free) is what Scarbo found - klunky, browser problems, ads loading slowly and bogging down the site, etc.? FWIW: Its only gotten worse with the software upgrade last June(?), and even with Windows 10.

This is meant as a creative critique, not a rant.

You get other benefits besides ad block.

I am not an Administrator.

I am a volunteer.

I haven't been here very long at all, but I agree with these guys...

I'm a regular on numerous forums, and this is the only one that causes browser issues like this. Pages are extremely slow to load and everything is rather herky-jerky until the entire page loads. There's a ton of valuable information here, but it's rather annoying to try access it.

Just my $.02

I use Safari - no problems at all. Fast, clean loading, no pop up ads and I'm not a premium member.

Try different browsers - chrome, Firefox, Safari etc and see. IMHO internet Explorer is the worst one for problems.

100% agree. I did block the flash plugin for my browser and it works way better now. OP disable flash in your browser. You'll end most of the crashing that this site causes and not actually lose any content.

I see a couple of ads ...

But nothing that distracting. I use the iOS safari browser for my iPad and iPhone and Chrome for my PC. There are a couple of targeted ads in the middle of the page and the ubiquitous links to BikesDirect, but the information that has been shared with me in two short months far outweighs any inconvenience.

Same here. Maybe your loading speed is caused by your internet connection. I have a 100Mb connection so mine is NEVER slow.
And I too am a volunteer.

I'm reading forums like this one over high speed fiber optic broadband, over wifi, and over 4G/LTE cellular - seems like loading speed issues are basically a thing of the past - they all load essentially instantaneously. If I have really poor cellular reception it can be slower, but that is rare - had to visit a large hospital to see a client a few weeks back and reception was terrible in the building.

Nothing like the torture of 56k dial-up from 20 years ago.

You get all the 'goodies' when you join Ti, we just don't send you a monthly TV guide to tell you when Antiques Roadshow is on like PBS.

You had to learn to drive a car, or ride a bike, and Mario Andretti may be driving my browser.

And since I have THREE BEASTLY GIGABYTES of aged DDR2 PC2 6400? is it? RAM in this over 8 year old Dell with Windows 7 SP1 and IE 11 upgraded from XP I suggest you get a tune-up or run the purple gas, there's something wrong with the fuel injection.

My DSL isn't all that special.

This site breaks the speed limit for me. Get under the hood and show the computer the love.

Your mileage may vary.
