Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meilenstein lightweight wheels

I have a few questions about these where here in the USA. Where does one find this available to buy that are "IN STOCK" and being there is a choice in Tubular or Clincher in all of there wheels, what would you prefer? I had no choice when I bought my 2 sets of REYNOLDS RZR'S as they only offer those wheels in tubular.

So who stocks them and where can you buy them..?

Thanks..

This is one of the most bizarre bike-related statements I have ever encountered. You chose tubular wheels because the wheel brand you wanted only came that way? That is like choosing a book to read based on the artwork on the cover. Really? What tire type you ride is as personal and significant a choice as can be made in bicycling. How can you subjugate it to a brand name?

How can you ask for advice? You just bought a $15,000 bike. Don't you even have any experience leading to a personal preference.

I WANTED ONLY the REYNOLDS RZR TOP TIER WHEELS that reynolds offers and they only offer there HIGH END Wheels in TUBULAR so I bought the TUBULARS (2 SETS) a set of 46'd and a set of 92's.

The LIGHTWEIGHT's provide a choice of either tubular or clincher and since everyone here is quick to let me know how the MEILENSTEINS are the top, I assume everyone is riding several sets or more and could provide me with the choice they bought..

The Lightweight Millenstein Obenmyer is the top wheel from them. It only comes tubular and weighs less than 900g por a set. I know I can get them through the LBS but not sure in Ohio.

Just as a frame isn't any good if it doesn't fit no matter what the cost or reputation, so too with wheels. No matter how pricey or highly regarded, they are wrong if they are not the type you want to ride. Are you planning to carry a spare tire when riding your Reynolds wheels? Do you even know how to change a tubular tire? Do you pay a sag wagon to follow you around?

Looking today into a set of these for a possible new F10 build and was thinking of the following front and rear MEILENSTEIN LIGHTWEIGHT WHEELS.

Lightweight Autobahn Schwarz Disc Tubular (Rear)

Lightweight Autobahn 8 Spoke Tubular ( Front)

Wow this guy has $100k (retail) worth of bikes! You will have to contact a dealer and then the dealer will have to have them special ordered:

Lightweight Dealer Locator

Of course there are other options:

My LBS will be getting them for me as we just found out that the distributor of LIGHTWEIGHT also is his distributor for other bike related things he buys for the shop..There is only one distributor for Meilenstein Wheels in the entire USA.. I assume the market must not be that large anyways.

MAGURA USA is the distributor for the Wheels

Ok @trekmogul, I think if you're getting Lightweight wheels, you should pair them to a lightweight frame. I think Pinarello F10 deserves all Italian build with Campy EPS and Boras. SRM SR11 with ceramic too. On the Lightweight frame, you gotta go buck wild. I'm talking SRM Origin,(German like lightweights) with ceramic, crazy oversized ceramicspeed pullies, tune saddle with the German flag, Shimano new Dura Ace Di2 (Axis power, still qualifies), Mcfk Handlebar and Stem, PC8 computer.

They are a time trial wheel set. Do you ride time trials? Do you have a TT bike?

trekmogul - looks like you have a collection of very nice bikes. I want to offer some friendly pointers, as many here tend to be sarcastic (which sometimes doesn't come across well on the internet).

Disc wheels - you typically do not see these on road bikes. Actually, you pretty much never see them on road bikes. They look out of place. They also could be dangerous in a group ride, if a strong side wind hits the disc and moves the bike. But if it makes you happy (and you ride solo), go for it.

Lightweights - not sure if they have them in stock, but wrenchscience.com stocks a big variety of Lightweight wheels. They are also a great online shop to deal with, in my experience.

Tubular vs. clincher - when you get a flat, do you call for a ride or change it on the side of the road yourself? If you call for a ride, you might as well get tubulars (they will be much lighter). If you change them yourself, get the clinchers.
