Anyone ever lost an iPhone from a jersey pocket?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone ever lost an iPhone from a jersey pocket?

I usually carry my iPhone in my small under-seat bag, but a recent road-rage incident has got me thinking I should carry the phone in a more quickly accessible jersey pocket.

I'm just afraid I'll hit a large bump and the phone will fly out without me noticing and be lost/damaged....

So, has anyone ever lost their phone from a jersey pocket?

Not I, said the rabbit, and I have kept mine in my jersey pocket while touring on some rough, hilly/mountainous roads.

Ditto - I carry my phone on me for accessibility reasons and I've never lost it or my wallet which I also carry on my person while I'm riding. Both live in an unzipped jersey pocket.

And yeah, I've hit some pretty rough/steep terrain on rides.

How do you turn the volume up if your phone isn't in your jersey pocket?

You'll be fine with it in your pocket. It's too heavy to come out unless you're in a tumbling crash, and in that case, your phone is the last of your problems.

I have always kept my phone in arms reach.

Most jerseys pockets are deep enough or/ tight enough that nothing should pop out, unless you crashed or hit a really bad pot hole, which leads to a crash.

Once. When I slid out on wet RR tracks. Absent a crash, it’s very unlikely.

Not lost my iPhone while on the road. Stayed in my jersey pocket even during a couple of falls on some slick rocky terrain. I do keep my phone in a Silca Phone Wallet, though.

Accessing your phone around 20 seconds faster because it is in your jersey pocket will accomplish what?

Never ever in many years of riding, though I still check a few times every ride if it’s still there for some reason.

Not to be a fly in the ointment...
I cracked my phone when it flew out of my pocket during a sprint
When going down bumpy descents, I can feel my phone slip halfway out of my pocket and go back in. I frequently have to sit awkwardly vertical on those. My advice would be to get a TIGHT fitting jersey OR a very loose fitting one (so that the phone essentially gets tangled the pocket, though this makes it frustrating to access). Also, get a sticky case for your phone. My case is hard, slippery plastic so it doesn't help

I won't take my iPhone out of the house unless it's in a waterproof case. My current case has a rubber ridge that runs around the back, and it's grippy enough that it makes the phone grab on to the jersey pocket.

Dude!
This is an iPhone specific thread. It says iPhone in the tittle. The OP has an iPhone, he wants to hear from people with iPhones, who carry their iPhones in their iPhone sized pockets or maybe balance their iPhones on the top of their helmets. Or maybe from ex iPhone owners who used to have iPhones but they put their iPhones in their not iPhone friendly pockets and lost their iPhones because their iPhones fell out of their pocket because the pocket couldn't retain their iPhones.
Not phones that aren't iPhones.

To save you some time and from the person from feeling like he violated some huge law, all that was needed was:

Hey thanks but iPhones might fit different than and S9.

I did have this happen once, and had cycled all the way home before realising. When I called it from my wife's phone, fortunately an honest person had picked it up and we were able to rendezvous.

I have twice, in 15 years of owning a phone, dropped phones on bike paths that were picked up by honest citizens and returned to me, and on the previous occasion it fell out of a backpack (I think).

The only thing that has ever bounced free my jersey pocket is a minipump, but that's considerably different - very slick/slender (Lezyne Road Drive) and it already protrudes out of the top of the pocket, so much easier to break free. A phone? Not a concern.

The only thing I've had come out of pockets inadvertently were sticking out to begin with, or that got dragged out when I was meaning to get something else - loose bills (money), gloves, cap, warmer, a wadded up windbreaker where the part that was sticking out caught the wind.... Anything could happen in a spill off the bike, but I think there would have to be something holding the pocket open in order for the phone to just bounce out on a bumpy road.

I've had my phone in my open jersey pocket for 25k miles, on road, gravel, mtb. And only certain types/angles of dirt bumps make the phone become weightless and airborne.

And don't worry about a phone coming out during a fall. The centrifugal force on the phone while you're ragdolling will keep it nice and tight against the jersey pocket.

No but I saw it happen once. The kid had his headphones jacked in though and I think that he pulled on the wire somehow which wouldn't be a problem with your iPhone.

I've had phones and other things fall from everywhere BUT the jersey pocket. Safest place to carry things IMO.

Good question. One is a medium Eliel Rincon jersey, which I suspect is a bit too big for me. In response to my phone falling out of that one, I purchased a Club fit Specialized Rbx jersey in size S. The pockets are a bit larger. The jersey fits me like a potato sack. Somehow it's more safe and less safe at the same time

It must be noted that I'm decently skinny. But not skinny for a competitive cyclist or anything.
