Does Ride your Age count if I do it a day before my birthday?
Saturday looks good weather wise, Sunday looks crappy, I might ride my age on Saturday, the day before my birthday...

You have to circle the block one extra time either at the beginning or the end of the ride, or it doesn't count. One day short, one lap longer.

Or you could do like my wife did. We did a 50 mile ride yesterday which is 8 miles short of her birthday age. I asked if she wanted to ride the extra 8 so she could have bragging rights. She told me that it was a "man thing" and she didn't need to do it. Smiling, she also reminded me that she swam laps for an hour before we started the ride. I conceded that it was probably close enough.

My birthday is next Wednesday, a workday. My birthday ride will be a 50-mile charity ride I'm doing on Saturday, (donate here) plus the ride to the ride, and the ride home again.
Should be about 73 miles total, so I'll get 17 in change back, right?

If it's a belly button birthday, it's OK to anticipate and celebrate a little early if that's what works for you.

I always forget that in some areas they're called birthdays. Around here they're anniversaries. Either way, mine are the same day (didn't plan it that way) just 43 years apart.

To each his own, but for me, the birthday ride has to come on or after the birthday or else it celebrates a milestone not yet achieved. Just as there are opportunities to do the ride before the actual birthday, there will be opportunities after it. The ride can happen as long after the birthday as needed, but not before.
But that's just my take. It's your birthday and your ride, so you can make your own rules.

My 62nd birthday is coming up on the 19th and I too will be working on my birthday.
I anticipate doing a long ride on the 15th and calling that my "Birthday Ride", but if for some reason that ride doesn't happen I'm going to use the 72 miler I did on the 26th of last month instead.
What's a few weeks when we're talking so many decades?!?!

It's my understanding that a birthday ride is just that: a ride on your birthday. Riding your age, however, does *not* have to be done on your birthday. If the weather's better for a ride the day before your birthday, who's gonna know you rode that extra mile for tomorrow? An age ride as my birthday ride isn't really practical, even here in Southern California. My age takes two hands just for the first digit (unless you know ASL and can do numbers one-handed, as I can) and I do a lot of stopping to smell and photograph the flowers on my rides, in addition to just not riding to simply go fast. That would mean starting very early and still ending somewhere very close to dark with my January birthday. So age rides are generally saved for summer's better weather and longer daylight. YMMV, of course.

Well, finally rode my age today! Only needed 56, did 58 (so I guess I'm good for the next two years 
)

Of course it counts! My birthday was a week and a half ago on a Sunday. Since I don't ride on Sundays, (my "day of rest"), I rode the previous Friday. Due to darkness and poor fitness, I only got in a hundred miles. But, I finished up twenty-four miles the next morning to complete my "double my age in miles and triple my age in kilometers" birthday ride. I figure it counts because I did it within a 24-hour period.

I believe Condorita and maddmaxx had it right -- Birthday ride=done on your birthday and age ride=done on any day during the year while you're that age.

For those of us with February birthdays in inclement climes, it counts any time I want it to count, and I can pick metric rather than imperial if I want to.

Absolutely. I've did my first this year and it was on the day itself. Took the day off from work and enjoyed a spectacular low 80s day at the end of January. Even in north Florida, that's pretty rare. I expect in future years I'll have to be flexible on the date to get the best weather. If the weather is good a few days earlier, I'll go for it and it will certainly count for me. There's no master record of all this, so if it counts for you, that's all that matters.
