A Confession of Sorts
I started riding "seriously (cough, cough)" at 58yo in 1998. I probably have something like 45,000 miles under my seat. For almost all of those years, I rode with undies - that's right - undies - under my shorts/bibs.
Back then, the BFN group had tremendous tongue-in-cheek discussions about pro and negative ideas of wearing undies, and there was even a person on the forum who called him/herself the "Underwear Nazi (UN)." That person left the forum a few years back.
But, there were some members of the forum whose brain lacked the "sense of humor" part when brains were being passed out as an infant, and the tongue-in-cheek discussions got so heated that UN and I finally stopped these mock arguments. This was mostly before 50+.
The confession - I have switched to going Commando.
This year the undies seemd to be causing me problems, something I had never had in the past. While I had experimented along the way with Commando, it never felt right. But, it now seems better.
There you have it - an open "true life" confession.
Also, it occurred to me that I do a lot of swimming, and I use "square leg cut" training briefs - not speedos, but not trunks, either. I could not figure out any difference between wearing the swim suit and going Commando while bicycling.

Where do you find the commandos at any biking event? Easy! They always hang out together! There's no secret to it. They're pretty much out in the open about it...
I should have taken out the "Easy!" and gotten straight to the punchline instead of leaving you all in suspense. Sorry to leave you all dangling like that.

Due to a significant (multiple surgery) issue in the area, I wear jockey briefs under bike shorts. The briefs are sport briefs, not cotton, tight and stretchy, with almost no seams. They cause no problems.
As an added benefit, since they are black they cover any areas where my bike shorts have worn so thin as to be seen through.

I don't believe I've ever given a moment's thought to what anyone was wearing or not wearing under their shorts. To think such a thing would be....well, just taking my thoughts in a direction I'd rather not go.

I can't believe 218 reads, 14 replies, and no one took care of this before.

Lmao at this thread. I guess it's time to fess up.
When I ride in touring shorts (most of the time) I use the undies even though I know you aren't supposed to.
When I ride in tight roadie styled shorts (not for quite awhile now) I go commando with the jock strap.
