Giant ATX 2 2018

Hey guys, the atx 2 seems to be quite good value for its price which is £350 in my area. Any issues with this model and Giant? Haven't had any experience with them so I'd like your opinions. Thanks.

Not for hard singletrack, but it will work for cross country. The fork is lacking and heavy and derailleurs are low end, but they'll function on mild trail. If it were me for trail I would get a higher end used bike.

Can you recommend a good 27.5 for under £500?

Thanks

Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. I'm not really up on the 27.5 models.

Just make sure it's in good condition, note what might need replaced and the cost. You don't want to expect a ready to ride bike and then have to make a lot of repairs.

The ATX will do the job. You could always upgrade parts in the future. It's just more expensive to buy aftermarket parts than to just buy a higher end bike to begin with.

I purchased a 2016 Giant ATX 27.5 2 new as a general purpose bike to ride rail trails, take camping and winter/foul weather riding. Giant bikes are generally good value for the money. I have owned many and still have the ATX and a folder. Mine was $575CDN in '16 and for a bike with disc brakes and 27.5 X 2.1 tires was very good value.
Pros:
good value
decent brakes
gear range satisfactory
rugged
Giant branded Kenda tires are pretty good
Cons:
heavy
forks are old spring style
not designed or built for competition or technical trails.
triple CR with 7speed is now pretty old school

I recently set mine up with drop bars as I now use my Felt fat bike for trail/winter riding. Knowing the limitations, I'm happy with my purchase. Be aware "used" MTBs may have been "abused " MTBs.
