Crank set stuck
ok so i just replaced my bb on my road bike
argon 18
bb and crankset. gxp
i was able the success get bb in
now sliding crankset in as in drive side
it wont go all way in
i banged it a bit light with hammer and moved a bit
but seems to stuck
i dont want to hit it hard
what should i do

Did you grease the BB spindle where the bearings seat? FSA tolerances are not always spot on IME. What was the previous set up? Andy

Try putting the crank in from the other side, if it slides in you put the BB in backwards which isn't possible to do with a threaded BB but easy to do with a pressfit BB.

GXP cranksets won't ever go all the way in, because they have a shoulder on the non-drive side that rests against the inside of the non-drive bearing. They do get a bit tight on the last 5-10mm on the drive side and sometimes need a hit from a rubber mallet to get it seated. Make sure you don't forget to put the splined spacer/dust cover on the non-drive side before installing the crank arm and tighten the non drive arm to finish the installation. The drive side will never be fully pushed up against the bottom bracket.

Ok I was able to get the crankset set in.
However I seem to come across a problem. I think that crankset is not fully in or something.
However this happened. I was able to attach the non drive crank and secure it in as the screw turned.
However I am having this issues now.
Crank does not spin freely. it is stiff. and I don't think its fully in. As It seems front derailleur is off now. Not able to shift chain into large ring.
What should I do. Take non drive crank off and hammer set in? it seems to not want to move any further?
What am i doing wrong here? thanks

Rubber mallet, don't be afraid to give it a pretty good wack. I went through this with my first FSA, called support, they said same thing, hit it with a rubber mallet. Once in all the way, worked just fine. Still in use today, although BB has been replaced a since...

Lets go back to the beginning here. What bottom bracket standard does your frame use? Is this a press fit bottom bracket or threaded? The installation and need for spacers is different for press fit versus threaded.

OK. I remember that thread. The GXP bottom bracket does not require any spacers for that frame with the Apex crankset. I know spacers come with the bottom bracket, but they are for use with a MTB crankset on a 68mm bottom bracket. They are never used with a road crankset. I you have installed the cups with no spacers, then you just need to hit the drive side with a rubber mallet until is seats fully and you can tighten the non drive arm completely without any binding when you turn the cranks.
Note - sometimes the plastic drive side bushing from the old bottom bracket gets stuck on the spindle and needs to be pried off before you can install it in the new bottom bracket. If there is a black plastic thing on the drive side of the spindle, that needs to come off before it will fit in the new bottom bracket. I suspect that may be your problem, in this case.
