interesting shape -- is this rack designed to wrap around, and attach *behind*, the fork crown?

Lovely Trek! And a perfect candidate for the rack. I hope to see it installed.

Exactly. The rack slips over the fork, and it mounts at the rear of the crown.

As promised...got the front rack installed! Fits perfectly after just a slight bit of tweaking. Thank you deux jambes!

Looks like it belongs in the Trek Catalog. The front & rear JB racks, the 650B wheels, the long chainstays...
I stumbled across one these Jim Blackburn front racks yesterday & plan on mounting it on an 85 Panasonic Touring Deluxe.

Are you satisfied with the mount point below/behind the fork tip? Did you simply add a spacer to bring the mount point out to where the rack leg would clear the fork blade? Does that feel solid?

Thanks

~pb

It fits great after some slight massaging to get the holes to align. The rack itself is solid...I think it's solid aluminum as opposed to modern ones that are hollow tubes. With everything tightened up it feels solid. I added a washer just so it doesn't fit flush on the paint.
