Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Videos and rollers

I have noticed something funny while watching riding videos on the rollers. Unsteady camera work, i.e. GoPro on a mountain biker causes me to wander on the rollers! I noticed this a couple of years ago watching someone's wobbly video of climbing a European Col. I thought it funny until yersterday's Sufferfest session which had some mountain biking. There must be others who have noticed !

Me too! I rode right off the rollers while watching the snowboarding at the olympics the other day.

These are two channels that I watch while I ride on the trainer. Opted for a hybrid roller setup because I could see bad things happening on regular rollers, and a regular trainer like a CycleOps felt really weird. Best of both worlds now.

Downhill, uphill, gotta change it up. Yesterday I watched Stage 2 of Dubai 2018. Sometimes I will do intervals with the CTXC guys in Australia. Not every ride has to be a workout. Get on the bike and start pedaling and just enjoy the scenery of some of those videos.

I can't coast at all on mine. You pedal. What is so hard about this? There always has to be that one person, that one whiner and complainer.

I can see something like that happening to me - swerving to avoid something in the screen.... But, I can't be bothered to re-arrange the furniture so I can watch anything while on the rollers. Lazy? Maybe. But I do enjoy actually listening to music while on the rollers - albums that I might otherwise get distracted away from.

Got a laptop? My workout space is grim but on the rollers watching Sufferfest videos places like the Col di Nivolet I don't care.

Yeah, I have a laptop, but no way would I want to be peering at it while on the rollers.... I really dislike looking at monitors/TV screens, which is why I project TV and movies on the living room wall.

I had been riding rollers watching Netflix, TV, etc. for a while before trying Zwift. The first couple times I tried Zwift I had to concentrate on not turning my wheel on some of the tight turns and switchbacks. Sure enough, first time I rode up Box Hill I rode off the rollers. Thankfully, I had a chair within arms reach to catch myself.

Same here. New at rollers and Zwift gets me off track sometimes. It's also laggy on my iMac.
