Today I did 35 miles fixed with some gravel and a couple climbs thrown in. Cool day so I got to try out my Rapha windbreaker -- must admit I'm impressed. It's light and comfy, cuts the wind well, and has some nice details like elastic running down the arm seams and meshy fabric under the arms for ventilation. I wouldn't pay $200 for it but I'm happy with it for the price I paid.

Today I almost got a KOM riding fixed. Just need to be 2-3 seconds faster. Got 74 gear inches, and I want to go up to 79. Is that too big of a jump?

I think you should try a more gradual increase, say 75ish via 49/17? The more worrying part about the whole thing is the injury / knee pain that comes with the increase load, I had to learn that through experience.

Also depends on the segment you're targeting. 2-3 seconds isn't that much to cover on a longer segment. On a shorter sprinty segment, it can be huge.

Not a bad idea. The jump from 70 gi to 74 gi was a little rough. I have 45x16 gearing now, and a 17 sitting on the shelf. Just need to figure out if there is enough room in the dropout for that change? I know there is a figure out there for how much a wheel moves in the dropout for each tooth, can't recall what it is.

As far as the segment, it is 1.3 mi around a lake. The first stretch is mostly flat, with a shallow climb. It then takes a left turn to a steeper climb, then a fast descent followed by a right turn. I definitely spun out on the downhill (134 cadence). Maybe could have pushed that a little more. Could probably have taken the first left a little faster too.

Oddly enough my best time on the segment was today riding fixed. Can't seem to beat it on my geared road bike (which should be easier!).

What was your minimum cadence?

Going from 45x16 to 45x15 would drop your max cadence by almost 10rpm for the same speed. Putting on a 17T would move you in the opposite direction from what you want.

ordered a custom pelizzoli leggenda frame to use with my wound up fork. you don't hear much about them, maybe because of the ordering process, but the pricing seems reasonable. they quoted 6 weeks but i've heard stories about their lead times so will have to see what happens.

It's been a lovely afternoon of hanging out and doing chores at home and relaxing after my big ride (PTO day). Kicked down 92 miles with 4k' elevation in about 5.5 hrs (rolling) time earlier.

Made some chicken parmigiana from scratch, sauce and all. Did the standard seasoned flour/egg/bread crumb assembly line before frying in hot oil briefly and baking with fresh mozzarella and shredded parmesan. Did a three-stage (fresh) basil thing, once into the saucepan after onions and garlic to wilt briefly before adding crushed tomato, once on top of the chicken before ladling the sauce over and going into the oven, and finally a little bit fresh for garnish. Served with spaghetti.

My god this is good! Perfect after a big day on the bike and a massive deficit. Pairing with a glass or two of (California grown) Bordeaux blend red and I'm stoked.

Today was only to the strawberry shack since I knew it would be slower paced than geared bike.

Taking it easy this week, this morning I did 15' on the trainer (TT bike), then a 15' jog around the neighborhood, then a 7 mi. commute to work on the MTB.

Latter two in torrential rain! Felt like I needed a freakin' snorkel. Thee storms that N. Cal./PNW are passing down to us are short but quite voluminous. At <40 min (elapsed) and 60 F, the commute wasn't bad, almost fun. Not long enough to be miserable yet.

Today I thought I could maybe sneak a ride in between the rain and wind I’ve been having recently. Ended up getting caught in a torrential downpour anyway haha.

Slammed goodness

The other day I flipped my stem to enjoy some slammed goodness The stem is now parallel to the top tube (had a 17 degree rise). With the slammed stem my reach is further, and off the bike my fingers are tingling a little. Will a shorter stem fix this?

DAMN!!! I just got a notice that my Wabi is finally shipping. Then I see that it's a 49cm and not the 55 I need. Sent them a message. Hopefully fedex hasn't actually picked it up yet, it is Sunday. In any case, it's going to be an even longer time until I take the first ride. DAMNNNNN

Damn is right Lazyass! Sorry to hear that, mine came in about a month ago after waiting all summer for the 49cm’s to come in. Been doing 100 mile weeks ever since. Loving it! It’ll be worth the wait!

Thankfully they got my email before fedex picked up their packages for the day so it didn't ship. They charged me $35 since they have to build up another frame in my size which is reasonable. Hopefully it ships this week. But I'm pissed at myself, I would have had it this Friday if I didn't screw up the order.
