Why are Sugino 75's so damn expensive?

Why are Sugino 75's so damn expensive?
Are they much better than these Andel cranks? How so?

Some bike stuff is priced on BS, but some stuff is fairly priced.
Sugino 75 cranks are made from cold forged aluminum and machined to be super concentric. The square taper penetration is extremely precise also, and is dimensionally spot on for JIS.
The simple fact that Sugino also makes cranks cheaper, also points to the fact that the more expensive 75's might be something better/different. Not all companies have this distinction, but Sugino does.
When you hold a set of Sugino 75's or Miche Primato etc. cranks in your hand, you will see the difference.
Sugino 75 cranks are made from cold forged aluminum and machined to be super concentric. The square taper penetration is extremely precise also, and is dimensionally spot on for JIS.

The Andel set are also cold forged. They are the same as Alien and a few other rebadged sets. I have both 75s and the Andels. I cannot tell the difference, so... I prefer my Andels since they cost less. They are 144bcd. I don't care as much when they get scratched, rubbed, scuffed.

I don't find the Miche Primato cranks to be of that high quality, at least the ones i own attest to that.
The manafacturing tolerances are pretty poor, which is evident in the amount of runout on my setup at the moment. I wouldn't expect the Sugino 75's to have such problems, which is probably why they cost so much more.

75's are expensive because you guys are willing to pay for them.
4 years ago they were dead cheap. ~$100.
fixed gear popularity exploded and all of a sudden they cost $190.
and you can't blame the yen for that. Because up until June 2007 the yen had been doing worse than the USD.

Supply and demand... if there hadn't been this fixed gear= new skateboard explosion, then they'd still be reasonably priced.

They are machined to a pretty solid rigor, and I mean, ****ing hype machine with the NJS stamp. Throwing a pair on my panasonic once it makes it to america.

Its pretty sad that you have to pay that much, and I got a complete campy compact double for my road bike for only 50 dollars on ebay.

then dont pay bencycle price for them. get them used. i bought mine for 150$ with 48t ring. mint =) u can find deals just be patient.

After writing the above, I went back to John's site and added up a Dura Ace crankset ($410) and a Dura Ace bottom bracket ($70), for $480.
A Sugino 75 crankset and bottom bracket would cost from $355 (silver cranks and Messenger ring) to $430 (black cranks and Zen ring).
Or a Sugino RD crank, a Shimano road ring, and Sugino's cheapest bottom bracket for less than $170.
Choices, choices, choices.
