Cycling is one of the few activities I can enjoy without regular brain farts, which is one of the reasons I like it so much.

I wasn't injured, but the brain farts got worse. I picked myself up and dusted myself and continued on my way - slowly at first to make sure everything was ok that then faster and faster. I turned around to check on my rear lights and suddenly realized after about five blocks that I had left my backpack with my keys and wallet and everything in it on the sidewalk by the bush. I set a new speed record going back to the scene. Fortunately, my backpack was still sitting there.

A couple of years ago my truck was having trouble starting. I rode my bike from the shed to the barn where the truck was parked. I hopped in the truck, it fired right up and I pulled forward right over the rear triangle of the bike. Fortunately it was just a $400 Giant mtb, the real downside is that I replaced it with a $1000 mtb that needs a dropper and new brakes to even be a moderately capable hardtail, but I don't ride off road enough to justify the upgrades.

At the end of last year, nearly a year into and getting comfortable with riding clipless, I was arriving at a usual mid-ride break-point when I thought to myself: the road was clear both ahead and behind me, so this was a chance to get more comfortable with unclipping and landing on my left foot. While well-intended, I had got so used to balancing my body for unclipping and landing on my right foot that I toppled over when I stopped.

Not me, but a friend showed up in his car for a group bike ride. He opened the trunk and realized he left his bike at home.

For me, riding my road bike and instinctively turning onto dirt trails that I always ride with my gravel or mountain bikes.

Or driving my car to a group ride and pulling my bike shoes out of my gym bag only to realize I had my soccer cleats in the bag instead (I did this so often I had to go out a buy separate bags for all my sports).

Worse when the turn leads to a non-vehicle accessible trail.
Even worse when wife is also in the car.

I now leave clean socks, underwear and shirts at the office. And should probably leave pants as well, although the new job is just two blocks from a WalMart.

Kinda cycling related. I'm in India on business, and one of my young colleagues offered to give me a motorbike ride. Sounded exciting, given the traffic situation. For unknown reasons I tried mounting the bike on the wrong side, throwing the left leg over rather than the right. At 63 with 50+ years of cycling experience, the right hip glides like butter, but the left is a crunchy mess. Hilarity ensued, humility reinforced.

Lacing new wheels while tired and late at night. Forgot to cross 7 spokes under the last one in a cross three pattern, and realized at the 8th one that I had to go back and unscrew the nipples and relace them. Left it for the next day after coffee!

Today's faux pas was going to shift onto the big ring and it would not go. My first thought was "what now" , I looked down and hit the lever again, nothing. Oh yeah, I did not re-attach the cable after doing a minor position adjustment on the front derailleur.

I drive to a park n ride, then ride to work. Been on this commute for 4 yrs. Before leaving the house I check the traffic, then set the phone on the seat beside me. A couple of weeks ago I left the phone on the seat. Got everything else. Quick ride back then drove to work.

I had my first brain fart while cycling in a long while this past weekend.

I was out for a ride one cool morning. It was about 34 °F (1 °C) It had frosted overnight and the parts of the road in the sun were melted and wet, and the parts in the shade were still frozen. It's kinda fun, there are tree-shaped frost patches...

Anyway, deep in thought I went around a curve and didn't notice the frost. The rear slipped out and I went pavement surfing. My right wrist was sore for a day and I rug-burned my right knee on my pants. I'm lucky I'm not too much older and that there was no car coming the other way or passing me.

Editing because I think I figured it out: he meant that he'd forgotten that a '68 Peugeot mixte's right BB cup is not left threaded. His idiosyncratic spelling and capitalization were what threw me ("Mixti Cups"; Dixie Cups?)

Last week I cleaned the garage and completely sorted/organized my bike parts. About 20 lbs of real junk went to the recycling bin. Yay!

And misplaced the 25.8 mm crown race and the new Tektro brakes for my current project bike. I'm sure I put them somewhere special, so I wouldn't lose them.

Oh man, good luck. I'm apt to set a tool down "temporarily" not in the toolbox, then not think about it again until I need it two months later. Find, or buy another? This is how I end up with duplicates.

Related: the spouse randomizer. Mine will helpfully move things but it is against code to announce the deed has occurred. That is how, for example, I find a saddle missing for a year, mysteriously in the garage and not the basement. With the other saddles.

I was out on a night ride recently, heading down a pretty short, but fairly steep hill. As I neared the bottom, I noticed just in time a decent sized pot hole. My childhood bunny hopping skills luckily still live in my muscle memory, and I safely cleared the obstacle. I went to coast away in satisfaction, but was rudely reminded I had chosen my fixie that evening! Only just avoided losing control at 25mph.

Just got 'round to beginning lacing hubs to rims (sourced used) for a pair of clinchers for my road bike. I'm a first-timer with this endeavor.

Ordered nipples & spokes early in January, then illness intervened until recently.

Seems my math skills aren't up to snuff... those spokes are too short by more than a mm or ten for my use. No Returns or Exchanges prominently displayed on sources web pages.

Expensive lesson.
