barrel adjuster, Shimano rapid-fire
I had cable slippage with a Shimano Inter-8 hub gear, and I need to reposition the fixing bolt. That isn't the problem.
The problem is that, when it slipped, I turned the barrel adjuster out enough to get the alignment marks back in place and rode (gently) home. And, I previously had to make a slight adjustment with the barrel adjuster.
Now, it seems difficult to turn the adjuster out any further, so I may have hit its limit. This is not a problem; I'll run it back in before I reposition the fixing bolt.
What I need to know, and haven't been able to find out from any of Shimano's technical documentation, is if I should leave it all the way in, or if I should run it all the way in and then back it out a turn or so. Do these ever need to be made looser?
Thanks.
