Got hit a little. Didn't tell the wife.
So yesterday I was riding home in a light rain when a ... wait for it ... SUV turned in front of me from another lane into a gas station. I did not have time to fully stop but I was able to change direction so I sort of sideswiped the SUV knocking the mirror back. I was fine. I just turned around and stared at the driver. Just stared and stared saying nothing. He made noncommittal sorryish type gestures until my staring prompted him to roll his window down and apologize. Anyway I rode on and considered whether I should tell the wife or not. If I told her it would scare her and she might not want me to ride in the rain. I am not going to acquisce to that so it would just cause tension. So I decided to just tell you lot instead. What would you have done?

If she didn't ask I'd not volunteer the info but if she asked I would not lie.

I don't think I'd say anything. You are okay & the bike is okay. If there was damage to either, you'd have to say something though.

I would not tell my wife. I've neglected to tell her about a few close calls even if my cycling skills come off looking good by avoiding an accident, it's still better she doesn't know. Focus on the positive.

To spare her the anxiety, I wouldn't tell her.
But I wouldn't be afraid of her telling me not to ride anymore.
If she's the type to interfere with my hobbies, she wouldn't be my wife.
But of course, I'm not married, so I picture you married guys laughing at my comment.

I voted yes, but that's just the way we are. She'd play devil's advocate and ask me how I could have prevented it.

No- you're a fully grown man and she is your wife, not a 10 year old boy and she your mother. If you're fine, just move on.
What matters is that you're not hurt, other than that I'd just keep going.

I'm not married, but I would never mention the details of any 'close call'. What purpose would it serve? Make someone worry at best, or at worst make yourself appear to be a drama queen. The bottom line is that we all have close calls....on the bike, in the car, wherever. If nothing happened, then there is nothing worth telling.

I probably wouldn't mention it unless something got broken. I don't assume she wants to hear about every dumb thing that happens to me all day.

Experience tells me (and should tell you) to keep my mouth shut. However, in reality I'd give-in and tell her out of either guilt or to brag about my battle experiences. She'd freak out and I'd end up waving it off. I'd hear about it for the rest of my life, but it wouldn't ever stop me from biking. I bet one day all the crap I pull adds up so high that she just leaves...
I dunno, like I said, experience says don't say a dang thing.

Yup.
And really, I'm pretty sure she hasn't told me about every minor-coulda-possibly-been-major-mishap in her everyday life either.

Wife just confirmed what I said...which is not much, and kinda both. She said, and I quote, "If he ever wants to ride his bike again he should keep his mouth shut." Then she said that you probably should tell her because it's "the right thing to do" whatever that means

i'd tell her.
girls doesn't like to be kept in the dark
specially from their loved ones
yes, you'll probably get into some sort of debate, but i the end, she will feel better, and you too.
Well, at least i know that is true between me and my Fiance.
besides girls knows us well know, that we wont listen anyways, and we'll continue to ride regardless... until we are in a hospital bed or something
...right boys?

I'm sure you'd appreciate it if someone casually pulled a knife on her (but didn't stab her!) the other day and she didn't tell you about it. Good thinking!

You really can't tell the difference between a pineapple and rhubarb, can you?

I'm not married, so i'm not sure how much weight my opinion has, but I wouldn't tell a girlfriend, not because I fear their wrath (I do still have my balls) but because I wouldn't want them to worry, I also don't tell my mom about that kinda stuff since she still worries about me anyway, even though i'm 35.
Uhh.. yeah, that example is not even the same ballpark as far as comparison.. that's not even the same sport..
