Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It seems suspect, in that they've given their loyalty program the dubious name of the "frequent flatters club"

Maybe Marlboro could have a discount program and called it their Frequent Quitters Club.

Wow, what a great price! The pricing shenanigans with this helmet make me suspect that Giro is either phasing it out, upgrading it massively and thus blowing out this generation, or else so many new helmets are out there that market forces are just bringing the price on this one down to more competitive levels.

All I know is I've liked it so far. I love the adjustability of it. It fits my head so much more nicely than the cheapo helmet I was using before. I like having that visor instead of wearing sunglasses and a normal helmet. With the little slits in the top of the visor to let in some airflow I've noticed my eyes do get a little more air than I got behind sunglasses, but it hasn't been enough to make me want to stop using it.

I just wish the prices of the extra visor lenses weren't so high. I bought a clear visor along with the helmet and the gray visor it came with, since I do a lot of night rides, and I paid almost a third as much just for that clear visor as I paid for the helmet and gray visor to begin with. Ouch!

Yes it has been phased out. It's not on their website anymore if you check and has been replaced by the model VANQUISH. Hence, the price drop.

I noticed this a couple of week or so ago when they removed AAS. They used to showcase both the VANQUISH and AAS. Anyway, re. the VANQUISH, I hate the extra flaring after the lens. I bet it would limit your visibility (although I have not tried it yet).

I got one- non visor, for $58. +95g from lightest helmet, but feels fast.

Wow, just had a look at that Vanquish, and it looks pretty awesome. I'm satisfied with this Air Attack Shield, but I'll have to keep my eyes open, maybe in two or three years there'll be some downward motion in pricing on the new model and I can do an upgrade.

I primarily wanted the air attack shield for the shield itself first, the comfortable fit and adjustability second (I've never been sure that my current helmet would actually stay on my head if I got into a real accident. I don't feel that at all with this new one), and honestly I sort of like that it's not as well ventilated and thus a little warmer, because my primary riding season here in AZ is during cooler winter weather.

I took advantage of the free shipping from Aerotech Designs. I lost my winter hat and really liked this one, so made an order. I've ordered three or four times from them and they always toss in a free aluminum bike keychain!

Got a set of Stans Alpha 340 rims w/ 3.30 rti hubs.

I spent a few minutes pricing a similar wheel build on bikehubstore. Got a price (if I built them myself) and weight. Wandered over to eBay, saw this wheelset with better hubs and bladed spokes at a fair price. I threw out a low ball offer and now they are in my garage.

2 Panaracer gravelking tires, Cinelli bar tape, a chain, and Shimano pedals arrived in the mail today. Phone is giving me issues, or there would be pics. It's a good end to a day.

I'm talking about the thing that the tablet holder is attached to - way back when, I worked at a store that sold a lot of Sony stuff, so seeing it was a reminder.

My wife wanted to buy me some bike stuff for Christmas, and asked me for my Amazon password. So I went into Amazon and added the Light & Motion Vis 180 Pro tail light to the shopping cart, then logged back out.

Later on in the day I got an email from Amazon confirming a purchase. That tail light was in it, and then she'd just picked the next five bike things I had on my wishlist and ordered them along with it. It was mostly smallish things like a bag of electrolyte mix, a five-pack of compression socks, etc. I'll pretend that I'm surprised on Christmas. :-)

I took advantage of the holiday sales on-line and at the LBS. I got a couple sets of continental super sport bicycle tires (like $12 a tire), a couple lightweight tubes for one of the bikes, that I got the tires for, and for my gravel grinder (that didn't need tires) a heavy weight bicycle rack (110 pound carry limit) suitable for disc brakes.
