Another Belgian bike that needs identification
As some of you already know by now, I have a soft spot for Belgian bikes. When I went to pick up the Indesteege yesterday, the seller also had this for sale. He didn't want much for it, and I was there anyway so it came home with me as well.

it's a standard Wagner(?) pattern forkcrown, and a nice one at that. I had a Bob Jackson-built Merlin that used the same crown, so could be Reynolds blades...the logo on the stem sort of mimics a Titan, I think. What size seatpost?

Nope. But, apart from this thread I haven't really put any effort into it yet. I need to take it apart, check the parts for identification, remove some paint and, most importantly, rustle up the Belgian C&V members and @juvela. That usually gets results with bikes like these.

- Belgians loved 'sports' bikes like these during the post-war decades. Multi-speed bikes with semi-upright bars, a bit like the Cinelli 'priest' bars
- rear racks on Belgian bikes were often brazed to the frame, or 'semi-integrated' like this one
- the bar stem is a copy of the (Belgian) Titan stem
- the fillet brazing looks a lot like what I've seen on other Belgian frames (check the Indesteege, linked to in post #1 )
- I bought it together with the Indesteege, identified as (Belgian) 'Royal Nord'. The PO - who lives fairly close to the Belgian border - bought these bikes together as well
- it has a braze-on on the left side of the fork for a tax plate, which is typical for Belgian bikes

My analogue callipers suggest 27.0 or maybe 26.8.

wrt the stem & bar set: do we know that titan did not offer private labelling?
are you able to make out the writing on the chainguard? looks something like frdez, but i'm sure that's not write.

is bb spindle hollow all the way through or just at ends? any markings on arms or bb cups?

I may be mistaken about the forkcrown being a Vagner (Wagner), very possibly this is an EKLA crown (check out the Extra Light Oval)...a brand very popular with British builders but originating from...wait for it...Belgium!

Just a suggestion here, I've seen a few of these pass by in the classifieds lately but could not find out more: Huybrechts, from Antwerp (Borgerhout). It was indeed the filet brazing that caught my attention, on bikes from roughly the '50 to the '70ies in a wide range of models (judging from the small sample I came across). Maybe the outline of the headbadge can provide a clue.

My wife's Belgian Libertas has the EXACT same chain guard and fenders as your mystery Belgian, I swear. However, hers is lugged. Not sure if Libertas ever did non-lugged bikes, did they? I'm sure its just a case of using local Belgian bits, not necessarily an indicator of yours being a Libertas. I could post pics if you need me to.
