OP..if a ziplock bag is an issue..fair warning..the issue isn't about a ziplock bag..

You do know that ZipLoc bags are reusable, right?
I have a slider type ZipLoc freezer bag that I've used dozens of times. I go through maybe 2-3 a year for that purpose and only because I occasionally lose one or need it for another purpose.
Most modern smart phones are water resistant and/or you can get cases that make them waterproof so you don't even need the bag. LifeProof and Otter make good cases but they are kind or pricey. Even the cheaper ones will protect a phone from sweat.

I got a cheap waterproof Otter/LifeProof knock off. Although it is supposed to be submersible, I'm really only worried about sweat and if I get caught in the rain. Might also provide some protection against drops at least more than a ziplock.

I got a travel toothbrush kit at Target that included a slide zip, heavy-guage, clear vinyl (or polyethylene) pouch which was the perfect size for my iPhone w/ battery case. Yeah, it has Hello Kitty branding, but what a conversation starter!

A waterproof case, like Lifeproof, would be ideal from the in-ride use and protection perspectives, but I've got enough to get together before a ride already that switching cases is a no-go for me. In fact, I bought a GoPro Session just to avoid the hassle of taking my phone out of a plastic bag for a pic!

I killed a few phone over the years, but I now carry an S5 and it is water resistant. I've had no problems with it and I just stick it in my center pocket. It's in a Magpul case, so I pop it out every few weeks and wipe any grime off.
So next time you're looking for a phone, you might want to check out those that can go underwater.

Get a bigger seatbag? Mine has a front pocket where the phone and a $20 bill goes.

I have one of these:
Lezyne - Engineered Design - Products - Organizers - Caddy Sack
I use it in inclement weather on my winter commuter bike or my fixed gear.
I also have the old version of this that I use during "good" weather on my road bike:

I use an old makeup bag that I got from my GF, it is synthetic and lined and keeps my tools and patch kit dry . . . but I still use a ziploc for my phone. It's perfect.

I mentioned in another thread about what we carry on our bikes that in my under seat bag I have a couple of empty ziplocs, one for my phone and one for my wallet in case of rain. I also carry a few first aid supplies in a small snack sized ziploc, and will probably include a few folded up paper towels in another.

My phone resides in a LifeProof case. It is waterproof, dustproof & shock proof. Solid protection on and off the bike.

Same here. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've kept my phone in my pocket unprotected from sweat for years and it stil works fine. Also when xc ski training in the winter. FWIW it's not an iPhone, but I doubt my motox is more durable.
New phones claim better moisture resistence. That will be my priority rather than apple vs. android. Get a phone that works, not a precious, fragile jewel

Multiple Uses...
Maybe put a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in with the phone? Then, the wife can ask what the zip-lock bag is for, and the OP can say "for my sandwich", which wouldn't be lying...
Oh, and I zip-lock, too, but only if I expect a downpour. Otherwise, I just let the phone get sweaty. Won't hurt it...

Use the bottom half of a bread bag.
Slide the phone in, fold the rest of the bag around the phone
and put it in your jersey.
( I do this when I find myself out of zip-locks)

Get some fold-top sandwich bags. Lighter , cheaper and about four times as many per box so the wife doesn't complain. It will keep your phone dry.
