Paint my bike - Chicago

Hey all,
Where's the best place to get my bike painted in Chicago?
Also, any ideas of pricing?
Thanks,
john

That's hilarious - I went to school with Andy Morter... Grafton's not far away from my hometown. I had no idea he did this! A trip home to see the parents & get my bike powdercoated - not bad. Thanks!!

How about decals? I know it is dumb but I ride a Colnago that pretty seriously needs a respray... I'm loathe to do it because post respray it won't have the lovely decals on it. Could I just buy a set off ebay and have whoever paints the frame apply them before clearcoating?

if its powder you would need special dacals that wont melt in the oven. but if you want clear you could have it powdered and then have someone shoot an automotive clear over the top or just leave the decals on top of the powder.

Talk to Spectrum. Or Cyclart. Pricey but worth it for that bike.

i have seen some spectrum jobs... and for a special bike its worth it. but expect to pay upwards of 400-500 for a semi complicated job. if i had a really nice colnago that i was planning on keeping for a while i would do it. but if its just alright i would powder it and call it good enough. sounds like you have the former though.

To OP:
My school has a shop that you could paint it in if you want to buy the paint yourself.

A bit late...but I actually just contacted Heritage Bikes about this. $125 to blast and powder coat a bike. And they have a coffee shop!

WOW... this is indeed an old thread!

And go figure that, years after my response above, I ended up using Heritage to powdercoat one of my other frames. What a great shop with a bunch of awesome and friendly staff. My wife and mother-in-law have both since bought bikes from them as well.

I had them do my Madison. They don't do it in house though. Good coffee and atmosphere!

Yea very cool place. I wish I was a bit closer or I would likely be in for coffee a couple times a week. I was seriously thinking of powder coating an old beat up Motobecane I got last week, but I've decided to go to full on winter project mode at home with it and strip it, repaint, and rebuild from the ground up.

edit: oh yikes lol!!!! I thought the thread was 4 months old, not 10 years and 4 months lol. Mistook the '06 for a '16. oh well.

any updates to this thread?

hi everyone any updates to this thread or any other suggestions? I know a few mentioned Andy Morter but the contact info that was posted is no longer in service- can anyone help me get in contact- would love to drop my bike off this weekend. Chicago bike shops are booked out so far and i actually happen to be going to green bay for a wedding so Grafton is a really convenient detour rather than waiting 2 months for a paint job in Chicago.

Only thing I could think of would be to DM Brian Kaschinsky on instagram. He's BMX legend and he's from Chicago. He should know about a place.
