Original prices are next to impossible to come by, and vary by region. And just like cars, their original price (especially considering age and decades of inflation) are irrelevant to present-day valuation and pricing--both buying and selling. Check Schwinn Catalog Scans for the rank of the Tempo (which is 4th under Paramount, Peloton, and Super Sport) or any other Schwinn you may be interested in.

Tempos are good bikes, and can be modernized easily to be as 'fast' as you want. Short reach brakes with recessed-nut mounting means you can, in theory, put the newest Shimano Dura-Ace (caliper brakes and threaded BB naturally) on it without issue (ok, maybe spread the rear triangle if it's 120mm spaced). Pretty cool. Vintage Schwinn road bikes will be undervalued as most always, but that should be a boon to you/us/any buyer of them. I have always liked the metallic blue that they came in. Metallic black as well, though I've only seen one like that I think...and it was here on BF.

Signed,

an '80s Schwinn road bike fan

Don’t know if this helps, but here is one from 84, got it from the dealer when I bought my leftover Supersport in 1985.

that's the list I have seen before. Thanks!

Interesting stuff.

Not sure if the same thing exists anywhere for 1985 but this has to be pretty close

Schwinn's 1985 advertisements included the MSRP. The Tempo was listed at $380.00 US.

1$ "back when" is not $1 "now".
