Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I recently bought a 2xl grail slx sl, I’m 6’7” with 36” inseam, fits great, my road bike is an 03 64cm Fuji team and they are both very similar in geometry. I can’t post a pic because I don’t have 10 posts on the forum.

a broken handlebar looks to be really expensive on the Grail, are those integrated bar carbon or alloy?

They are carbon, no adjustments either, I worried about that but it fits great. I made sure multiple times about Canyon’s return policy in the case I didn’t like it. I’ve seen in other places that a replacement could be as much as $400-$450, no idea if that’s true. Tho I’d say if you broke a handlebar you would most likely have more issues.

Actually carbon handlebar are known to break just by the bike falling sideways, that's what happened to my FSA K-wing

Yikes, that would be terrible. They seem pretty rugged, I'd hope they would design them to take a beating being a gravel bike and all, time will tell I guess...I've never had anything carbon until this bike, it's very stiff all the way around (in a good way).

Dude... we get it. You don't like the bar. But, come on. Carbon bars are known to break just falling to the side. Uh huh... that happens all the time. Ever seen what sweat does to aluminum?

I know you got invested interest on your new shinny bike, but carbon handlebar is just not as durable as alloy one. On a fall the handlebar usually takes the impact first. On a normal bike, that's a $50 replacement, on the Grail that's $400 and hope they have your size in stock

My shinny new bike is a year and a half old and far from shiny and wait for it... the bar still hasn't broken. In fact, non of my carbon bars (or frames, seat posts, wheels... ) have broken.

Go troll another thread. I think someone's talking about carbon forks. You should have field day with that one.

True. on a "normal" $500-$1000 bike, parts cost $50. On what is basically a $5000 (if bought from Trek/Specialized), it going to cost more to to replace the parts. Durability isn't an issue unless you really abuse something. I beat the crap out of my handlebar, its fine.

What Trek/Specialized are you buying with expensive handlebars? That's the first place where they cheapen out. As far as corrosion goes that's why I love Renthal bars. They put an ano/power coat on it that not only makes them pretty scratch resistant but also good protection against corrosion.
