TREK Ds 8.3

Hello I am new to this forum so hello again. I currently have a trek 820 and was thinking about upgrading, i went to my local dealer and spoke with a great sales rep and he thinks I should do a dual sport. I ride mainly on roads and some grass but have never done anything to mountain bike worthy but I do want to option to hit the gravel or dirt if it's in front of me. Is the 8.3 a good bike or will I be left a little flat

How about a different set of tires on the 820?

Agreed.

From the looks of it, you would be taking maybe a side step to the DS. They look to be very similar bikes. Maybe try a set of 26x1.5's in a smoother tire for more road oriented riding.

They are very close bikes...I'm in the consider different tires on your 820 camp.

If you want skinnier knobs, look at the Kenda Happy Medium tire or similar things in 1.5 inches/38mm width ranges. Will give you traction on dirt and a tough enough casing for gravel etc. If you want less rolling resistance on the road, but still some traction, something like the Schwalbe Big Ben would be something to consider.

For $100 roughly you have a new set of quality tires that will likely fix you up.
