Miyata Blue ninety large Ninety

Please talk me out of buying this low end bike with a nice looking frame. Large 61cm Blue Miyata for $10 or so at the local thift store no price but there cheap I can likely get it for $10 or less it has some OK components and fairly nice seamless high ten frame. I would probably end up stripping it and selling few components there are actually a few with some value and just binning most of the components and maybe using the frame for a build or as slight upgrade on my single speed gravel grinder.

The only person who might talk you out of this is your significant other.

Foe $10 how can you go wrong? The bike as a bike needs too much to be worthwhile, but lots of useful items there.

On the useful items, really nothing on there would be useful for me. Last time I picked one up very similar to this (but nicer wheels) for $12. Got it home, realized the parts were nothing special either. So I cleaned it off, sold it as a project for $50, and moved on.

Suntour AR short cage RD = so so. Matching FD = the same. Ditto stem shifters and alloy stem. Steel post, bars, pedals, wheels with rusty rims = no value. Swaged crankset with rusty chain ring bolts, minimal value.

If I found another one of these for $10, I would buy and donate to the co op. As far as why not at $10, some bikes, even if they are acquired free, can be money losers by the time you are finished with them. And then you are out the time, and if you plan to resell, more time for tire kickers.

The co-op can fix them up with donated tires, donated mechanics time, and put them out for $50.

Well I ended up buying the bike for less than $10. After about 2hrs of TLC to grease the bearings and replace one cable I took it for 10 mile or so short mountain test ride. Turns out it rides great even with the stock oem tires and steel wheels. So I will likely keep and ride since it seems to have almost no retail yet is nearly priceless as 80's bike that I admired in my youth.

Nice! Like I said, for $10 you can't go wrong.

I bought one for $15 but it was in worse shape I stripped it of parts and still have the frame. Not sure what I will do with it.

Be careful with leftovers. After 13 years of flipping and parting out bikes, I ended up with 370 wheels, dozens of left over frames, a pile of handlebars, etc. I recently donated 125 wheels to the local co-op. I've gotten the pile "down" to 170. Half the handlebars have been donated too.

Its really a LOT better to let the stuff go as it comes in and not let it get totally, completely out of hand like it is in my case. Having more than adequate storage space in my case is both a benefit and a detriment.

That bike was a deal. You came to the wrong place if you actually wanted to be talked out of buying it . . .
