Interesting impression of a Colnago. Did they manage to crimp the top tube?

It looks like it was done on a decent frame to start with, but will be a tough sell in the price range the seller is wanting.

Hard to say if this one deserves the Wacky Thread or the "Are you Looking" thread.

COLNAGO Ladies in Regal Purple and Gold Plate - $6500 (Port Coquitlam)

It is a sweet looking ride, but awfully ambitious on the pricing.

I'll have to dig out some photos. Back in my repping days I called on a Lynchburg shop where the guys were into downhill and after hours took their bikes up to Thunder Ridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the start of a 13 mile downhill stretch of the road. Converted BMX frames is what they used.

It started off as basically taking a BMX and putting the handlebars forward and calling it BMX GPV.

But along the way people realized you could go way faster with fairings.

(Some downhill action Circa 88)

But the problem is not everyone has access to mountains or is willing to ride down them. But at the same time the BMX retailers wanted to sell more of these bikes. So they looked at bikes like the Hutch (Which is honestly a 20'' MTB) took the fairings off and created a band new sport called BMX Formula One which was circuit racing. This didn't last long as you mays well race a full sized road bike lol

It looks like some of those BMX bikes are the precursors to the mini-velo bikes which are still popular in some countries/cultures.

Large chainrings may be needed to compensate for the tiny wheels.

lol I wonder if Reece ever knew how ironic his last name was considering the riding position?

Now that I look at them I have to wonder what came first? Did some bike executive decide to Americanize these bikes and bring them to North America with a new sport? I kinda feel like these bikes were trying to capitalize on the 80's BMX craze when they really shared nothing in common.

Would you list your unfinished project bike for sale on CL with a pic like this? Just a snip with a scissors would immensely improve your chances, IMO.

^^^^^ Nasty/icky saddles on CL ads are one of my wife's pet peeves, and are def. value-killers. Gotta love how he mentions the "new chainrings", drawing attention to (but conveniently declining to mention) the... err... umm.... "unorthodox" means of attachment.

Pretty ingenious, tho! I think I'll pack a couple heavy-duty zip-ties in my saddle wedge just in case I ever lose a chainring bolt on a ride

If you look close you can tell it's not spokes, it's decorations on regular spokes. Not sure what they're using, maybe even just plain white plastic straws?

I think it looks cool. Might even adapt the idea for my commuter. Would be cool with those reflective plastic spoke things

I've never seen this before but what I think they done was instead of using the full amount of 36 spokes they used 18 heavy duty spokes, and the other half they took regular spokes bent and looped them.

I think spokes are laced traditionally. If you look closely you can see them continuing on the "loops". The illusion is created using spoke sleeves which sometimes follow the spokes and other times peal off the actual spoke to create the looping shapes. Make sense?

No, where those loops are you can see regular spokes continuing straight and crossing on their way to the hub. You can see it most clearly on the front wheel at 9:00 and 10:00 and 5:00 and 4:00

Simply amazing. Why would you attempt to sell a bike with something this critical kludged like that. Spend a few bucks and buy some bolts!

The Peugeot is clearly listed as a "Project Bike".

It actually looks fairly complete. So, $5 at the co-op for bolts, and it may be ready to go. Tuning the front and rear derailleurs?

Of course, one has to question the quality of all the work done. There is clearly plenty of grease in the headset.

I'm not sure about the seat cover. The weave is interesting, and might hold for a while. Is that just white/cream tape? I had wondered if the loose ends were supposed to be that way. Whiskers?

Completing the project, and the seller could likely have asked $150 or more, and the bike would have been easier to sell.
