I hear you. That's my preference as well. Perhaps, as a starting point, you can send an e-mail to Brooks and ask if they've ever made bar tape in that color. If they haven't, you'll know one of the limitations you're facing.

Rustines Campy/Superbe style hoods are out of stock everywhere! I have a pair of Modolo levers shipping my way soon that will need hoods. So...

ISO: Pair of Rustines or Modolo non-aero hoods, either new or gently used, and preferably gum, but may consider white/cream.

There are some options on eBay (search for "modolo hoods"). They are starting to go for "stupid money" (as iab says), so my guess is that most NOS is evaporating. jeirvine 's suggestion of Boulder Bike might be your best option. Still, you might score some levers with hoods for less than the cost of some of the NOS hoods listed on eBay, so that might be an option.

Also include Ame in your search. They made hoods to go with Modolo brakes.

Brooks did make bar tape in that colour. But yes, sending an email to Brooks and asking if they will bring it back out would be a first step.

and IF you can find them (in a color that does not embarass you to use) the A'me hoods outlast original Modolo and other re-pops by many years, IMO. They used an "un-natural" synthetic rubber that was far more durable than natural gum.

I always forget about Boulder Bike for some reason. Anyhow, thanks for mentioning them John. The Modolos currently in stock are black, and I’m stuck on gum for this project. However, I had also forgotten about Soma repops as an option until I saw them on the Boulder website. They look like a decent substitute so I bought a pair. Price was right. Problem solved!

Searched high & low. And yes, they’re not inexpensive. There is a pair of translucent ergonomic hoods which are absolutely gorgeous, but... upwards of $80!

I had considered the lever/hood combo too, just didn’t find any attractive deals this time around. So...

Soma hoods, soon in the mail from Boulder Bike, and life is good!

Thanks Law. I scoured eBay for a pair of Ame as an option, just didn’t find any in a color I was comfortable using on this build. Few things in life that I get ridiculously picky about, but a bike’s color scheme is definitely one of them.

I rode with a pair for a while. Red. They were installed over Aero Gran Compe levers, and had seen a ton of use before I took hold of them. Yet, besides being embedded with sweat and dirt, they were in outstanding shape, and I remember them being very comfortable.

What do the numbers mean in the title? And which one is most important when buying a replacement?

Also do they come in different sizes? If so, there's a chance it's not the exact size in my bike.

100mm is distance from stem to hbar clamp.
22.2mm is the stem diameter (this fits all non-metric steerers)
25.4mm is the handlebar clamp diameter.

1 is preference, 2 must match the frame, 3 must match the bar

Hi folks,

I’ve scrounged up some old triple cranksets (one each, 165,170, 175), the arms are good, but the larger rings aren’t. I’ve salvaged the steel small ones, but need some of the large ones for experiments I’d like to do with various arm length. Looking for a wide variety.

For trade I have some Shimano derailleurs. A 6500 rear(short cage), a 6600 front, a 6503 front (triple). The 6503 has some wear on the cage, works well. Also have a Deore XT set. Email you needs and I’ll check clamp diameters and send pix.

While looking for another set of pedals in a little-frequented bin, I found these Shimano PD-1056s. According to Velobase, they're from the 1990-1995 era. They're well-used and have plenty of scuffs and scratches, but the bearings feel perfectly smooth. No idea how the release mechanism might work since I don't have shoes or cleats for them.

If you're looking for a pair of these, let me know--I'll never use them.
