If Lance does not ride in the tour this year, who will the team be riding for? If they don't think they have a GC rider, do you think they will concentrate on willing the Team Classification?

I think he'll do le Tour, but if not, I would guess Popovych will be the man.

They'll probably have a main goal of stage win or two... and probably a couple riders try for the GC and see how they fair in the first deciding stages, and go from there.

But then, knowing how professional that team is, they will probably know if they have a rider capable of GC before the race even starts.

Yes, Popo would be their man since Salvodelli will be leading the team for the Giro. Popo could get top fifteen I think.

I am looking forward to the Giro far more than the other two GTs so far. A Cunego-Basso-Salvodelli battle? I can't wait.

I heard something about them wanting to get Basso... Maybe just a rumor, but I'd assume if they got him, they'd ride for him.

They wanted him, as did everyone else, but they didn't have the bank, especially since I suspect Floyd would've been first in line.

I think it was more of Basso who didn't want to leave CSC and Riis... He believes he has more chances (as he is the leader of the team now) to win TdF with CSC than he would have with Postal/Discovery, at least initially, in the first two years... He is a winning caliber stage rider right now, so why waste 2 years supporting Armstrong and wait for him to retire to step up and become a leader... BTW, Discovery would easily pay him more than his current salary at CSC, if he decided to switch teams... My 2 cents...

They wanted Basso but could not afford him. Unlike the yankees, cyclign teams have a budget. Really, though, they tried to get him, but it was a money issue.

He'd have switched if the $$$ had been right. Discovery could not, with their remaining budget, pick him up.

Johan (cannot spell his last name), the DS, sounded iffy about using him for GC, in a recent interview.
Like 'maybe, maybe not'.
