What's the current weight weenie 26" mtb tire setup?

Picked up a Mongoose Pro Ti that is begging for some latex tubes and the lightest tire money can buy. Looking for something close to the Kenda tread pattern. Bonus points for gum walls. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

THAT is a find. What an awesome bike. Love the full ti Titec kit and the XTR M950.

The Maxxis Maxxlite is 285 grams which is nuts. Minimal tread. I would say dry condition XC racing only. No skinwall.

Schwalbe Furious Fred is around 350 grams. Very minimal tread. No skinwall.

Schwalbe Racing Ralph with the liteskin compound is also light at around 450 grams. No skinwall tho.

Panaracer still makes the Smoke/Dart combo. 550g or so per tire.

I was gonna say Racing Ralph but Tengrain beat me to it. Those are pretty sweet tires.

Your chain is running wrong through that derailleur. I believe it's dragging on the tab that goes between the cage plates. It should be threaded behind that tab.

These are the lightest I know of, discontinued I think. Did a few STXC and CX races on em. I usually go for something meatier, however.

The M952 is my favorite derailleur. I have several and I get it wrong about twenty percent of the time when installing new chain.

Schwalbe superlight tubes are always nice. SV14A is probably what you want, at around 110g for a 26x1.5-2.3. I have the Schwalbe superlights in 700c sizes on my Ron Cooper and my Vitus and I think they help keep the tires nice and supple. Plus the clear plastic valve caps are cool looking.

Schwalbe makes several versions of their tires in skin-wall. The German online sites have some listed:

https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/...folding-689716

https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/...folding-798312

None of these are particularly light weight..if you want that, look for some RaceKing Supersonics. By the way, your bike would look great with a pair of Smoke/Darts in skin-wall. John

Very cool find. +1 on the Schwalbe SV14A. I use those tubes on my 650B bike and have been very impressed with them. $16 seems like a lot for a tube, but that money sheds a lot of rotating mass compared to other tubes.

Wheels themselves could probably be a lot lighter, too. Are your spokes even double-butted?

If your riding doesn't involve lots of big jumps you could build up wheels with 439g Weinmann 519 rims and thin spokes like DT Swiss Super Comps or Sapim D-Lights, aluminum nipples everywhere but the rear drive-side. (Maybe even DT Revs/Sapim Lasers in front and rear NDS if you dare!) Sticking with 32-spoke of course. Should make for wheels that are still decently strong, but much lighter in the end.

Spokes aren't double butted, new wheelset could be in the future but for now just looking for a fast way to lighten it up.

Does the Schwalbe SV14A tube come in Schrader or do I have to go Presta? Is it common to put Presta tubes on rims drilled for Schrader with no modifications?

You can use an adapter easily enough, just Google "presta valve adapter schraeder" or something equivalent.

Some tubes come with this adapter integrated into the nut:

but don't ask me which ones, as I've not kept track.

AV14A is the same tube with a Schrader valve.

https://www.biketiresdirect.com/prod...RoCt2kQAvD_BwE

These are available all over the internet. They convert schrader sided hole to presta. I used them on an MTB double walled rim for a few years. It fits secure, doesnt rattle or whatever, and basically makes it seamless.
Do not use a presta tube on a schrader valve as the rubber/latex tube will rub against the edge of the larger hole and go BOOM.

When I sold my 26er I was running some WTB racing tires that were about a pound at 2.3 width. I set them up tubeless without a kit, extra layer of Gorilla tape to push up the bead seat and valves cut out of old tubes. It was working fine and a huge improvement in quality from stock but they were wearing fast.

Anyone have a US based store that they'd suggest finding the Schwalbe Super Light tubes at? All I see is UK based shops and cyclocamping. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with cyclocamping trying to order them and got nowhere.

Looks like OP wants an actual mtb tire with knobs. DTH is a smooth tread BMX race tire.

In that case, you might need the Presta-to-Schrader adapters after all. AFAIK, RH/Compass only imports the Presta version. I hadn't checked availability on the Schrader version of the tubes before posting...

Great find. Try Fairwheel bikes; Turbolito tube in 27.5 X 1.8 should fit. About 60 grams, but be sitting down when you check the cost. They're the best place I know of for WW's.

Those won't fix old-school 26" rims, sadly.

$38 for one inner tube but it weighs only 28g.

SADLY, however, they cannot be used with rim brakes (disk brakes only).

ETA - the tubes that weigh 38g are suitable for rim brakes and cost ONLY $35 each.
