Sync chain tension

How much variation in sync chain tension is acceptable? I’ve tried all of the usual things like loosening chainring bolts and tapping the chain but still end up with a 3/4” difference between tightest and loosest

Try rotating the one ring 90 degrees out of sync from the established wear patterns that develop. I suspect that will help some.

Thanks

Thanks. Tried that and even put on one new chainring. No change. Perhaps I should swap out the other one. Or just stop obsessing about it!

Assuming your have the cranks setup in syn, if you can get the tight spot to be on the power or down stroke, I would think it would even out over time. Situations like this that I have seen resultant of wear, have the loose spot in the chain during the power stroke.

The reverse

The tight spot is when the cranks are level and forward: in the power stroke position.

Eliminate the tension. Once you do that, how loose is it at the loosest point? Does it cause a problem.
