Removing powder coat

I replaced a seat tube on a frame that is powder coated. I'm thinking about just using rustoleum on it since I'm not really set up to paint. Anyone have success at removing powder coat?

Here's an article by a stripper manuf.

Personally I'd torch and wire brush it off around the joints then sand to blend the rest of the ht and dt etc and prime it.

I just use a bird's nest wheel on a grinder. Removes powder coat or any sort of paint in seconds but no metal.

I usually get these ones:

I would recommend to NOT use a sand blasting. Some media can go right through metal very easily, especially delicate steel tubing found on nicer bikes.

And bake off? The oven gets to 1000 F, I think that hot enough to melt brazing material in the joints.

I've never tried removing it myself. I just take them to my powder coater and he sticks them in a tank of stripper.

You're making me miss Cletus, the old powder coater that disappeared. The new guys are expensive, slow, and not really that good. But maybe I'll just send it off to Goody Bros.

I just finished a pc coated frame. I used proform aircraft stripper. Rubbed it in with sos pads then rinse and repeat.

Wasn't that difficult.

I was chatting about painting with fellow frame builder/painter Rich Gangl the other day and he said the brand aircraft stripper took out its most powerful ingredient methylene chloride and now it doesn't work nearly as well. According to Rich the packaging all looks the same but now it is much more difficult to get paint off.

I just read the can and there is no mention of methlene chloride. But whatever is in it worked like a charm.
