Falcon Black Diamond

Picked-up this Falcon. I know it is not a San Remo, but it was very cheap, only 20$. The paint is nice, even the decals are there.
The chain drive is messed up, missing two bolts.
Questions:
Was the bike equipped with 26 x 1 1/4" wheels? (Rigida)?
Was the fork origin am chrome?
What is a price to sell it after tune-up?
Thanks

The Black Diamond model came with an all painted fork. Fork must be a replacement which means you should carefully scrutinize the front end of the frame for any deformation.

Frame's head is Agrati bulge-formed model "AM." This is the first Falcon I can recall with this lug pattern.

26 X 1 1/4" wheel size puzzling. Just look at the space between tyre and underside of fork crown. Very odd.

If you plan to work through it for resale you might consider giving the next owner a set of pedals which can be serviced instead of those Union 40U items.

Have fun.

Looks to be a wrong sized wheel of the wrong fork. If it was 26" then the fork is likely a 27" fork. What does the rear brake look like for clearance and what's the size of the rear wheel. As nice as this one looks you can go upside down in parts and labor real quick. I am guessing that its really a 27" wheel bike with a miss-sized front wheel. So you are looking at a new front wheel or rebuilding that one properly. Also looking at the front derailleur the cable housing is way too short, making think someone had no idea what they were doing. Only God know what else you cold run into getting this one ready to sell.

The velo-pages shows that the 19 1/2" frame (like this) has 26" wheels. So these are from the bike, the fork is a replacement.
No signs of damage on the frame.

Looking at the front brake caliper being at it's max lower limit, 27-in wheels should be what's needed, however, if it's a flip-bike, just leave it as is if the wheelset is matching.

Also looking at the front derailleur the cable housing is way too short, making think someone had no idea what they were doing.
The cable housing looks too short because the derailleur has been temporarily moved up for removing the chainring.

The original wheels are 26", as I said before. The wheels on the bike are original. The fork is a 27" replacement, that's why the brake pads are at the lower position.
I need to find a 26" fork at the Bike CoOp.
Such forks should be on the Schwinn middle weight bikes, 26 x 1 3/8", as are the wheels now. I don't know if they are compatible.
The front derailleur is moved up, you are right.

Since the bike is French and has Rigida wheels and Simplex components, I'd be guessing that the fork would need to be French, maybe off an old UO-8, in order for your headset and fork to fit.

I have some forks. one looks like is what I need. No idea where this fork is coming.
I will make the bike parts, clean and grease it and try the fork I found. It is red, but I can paint /powder it somewhere.
If it is not good, I will try the bike Co-Op for some french forks.

Falcons were made in Barton-Upon-Humber, England. It would have British threading everywhere. The Simplex derailleurs are made in France. They were very common on the less expensive European bikes of the early 1970s.

We sold lots of Falcons at Rainbow Jersey in Milwaukee in those days. This looks like a Model 70, the bottom of the line.

Looks like a Raleigh bike I picked up a few years ago. It was pristine. Only used once by a 375lb person that got on it a bent the rear axle & smashed the drive train. Was a pretty easy fix.

You are right. It is a model 70 Black Diamond.
I knew it is a bottom model of the Falcon. I made researches about Falcon one year ago, when I got a San Remo, the top of the line.
But for 20 $ was a shame to leave it.

Thank you for your reply, but this thread is 5 years old..
The fork was not original.
I replaced the fork and sold the bike long time ago.
I looked at your bike. The top tube looks a little bent, near the head set. Maybe is just a illusion.
