And another Silver King!
This is a rare classic frame made of Duraluminum, a rarity for the mid 30's. most of these bikes didn't survive the metal recycling efforts from WW2. frame has been lightly sanded from 200 grit through 1200 to remove 89 years of corrosion. my teen grand daughter and i built this up for the newport daffodil run a few years back, thus the 26 inch fat tire wheels and schwalbe "billy bonkers" tires with silver surfer comic book clippings decoupaged on the rims. single speed coaster brake with modern square taper stronglight crankset mounted with an adapter bottom bracket to go from american to european type. the frame has 2 cracks that were professionally repaired.. very common for these old bike frames. it's been ridden for 2 years with no problems. monarch truss rods, noah's arc slightly curved chromed handlebars with wood grips, frame mounted brushed metal water bottle with silver surfer decal. sprung leather saddle. local pickup in newport RI
. $650 OBO
Despite the double-dose of royalty in the name, Monark Silver King was born out of the Great Depression, beginning as a side venture of the Monark Battery Company. After finding success producing electric radio and automobile batteries in the 1920s, Monark (originally, it seems, based out of Kansas City) was desperate to diversify its product line as the crunch of the Depression slowed sales. The company had no clear plan in place at first, but after one of their legal advisors referred them to the latest invention of a man named George Strong Lewis, the proverbial wheels of a new enterprise were set in motion. https://www.madeinchicagomuseum.com/...k-silver-king/

From the linked story: "During his college days in Kansas, Lewis had been a noted bike racer and a member of the Wichita Bicycle Club. After heading to Chicago to work as a ticket seller at the 1893 Columbian Exposition, he eventually formed a business partnership with an old Wichita chum, James Mead, in the sale of mail order bicycles."
So much around here came out of that 1893 Columbian Exposition. Great to learn another little piece of bike history was related to the Exposition.

No, not really, but am I allowed to ask questions? It would be for her, you see.
What is the stand-over height, up where the tube goes horizontal?
What happened to the pedals? Do you have them? <-- my wife asked
How soft (plush) is that saddle (leather and springs)? <-- tough question, I know
Approximately how much would it be to package, pack and safely ship, with insurance, from Newport to So Cal? <-- local pick up is a non-starter for me
