One of my first jobs was assembling bikes at a dept store, and I remember setting up a few of these. The Adamas grouppo was pretty revolutionary for its time, I had never seen anything like it before or since. Padded Turkey Levers? Octagonal bottom bracket spindles? Campy Delta style brake calipers?
Unfortunately the frames were garbage, made worse by the "experimental" flattened frame tubes. I remember one frame came back broken cleanly into two pieces.
But this was the early 80's, during the brief pre-funny bike days. Many manufacturers had an "aero" frame in their lineup. Univega's top model had that design, but I don't think it sold well, as I have never seen a used one on the market.

For city/commuter bikes, the FFS should work good enough. My younger brother had it on an entry model Motobecane in the early 80's and it never presented any shifting problems.

This is why I wish they'd bring back the "date thread started" line so I can see if it's a really old thread or not before I bother with it. They took it away when they did an update ~2 years ago and have claimed to be "working on" bringing it back ever since (but haven't through the last 1-2 updates they've done in that time).
